Description

This role is an Underwriting Data Analyst position in the Underwriting Portfolio Management team, which sits within Underwriting Performance Analytics.

You will use data to shape underwriting across Europe and turn complex data into clear insights that help underwriters decide well and guide portfolio strategy.

You will work day to day with the European Underwriting Management team and the country underwriting teams, and your analysis will feed directly into underwriting goals. You will also contribute your views on how to reach those goals across the business.

The role suits someone who likes working with data, is curious about insurance and wants to build a career in underwriting analytics. You will work under moderate oversight with support from senior team members, with room to learn, grow and take on more ownership.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and respond to the portfolio management needs of the Europe business.
  • Support pricing for large deals and new business opportunities.
  • Produce profitability studies.
  • Analyse books of business and recommend ways to optimise them.
  • Deliver work ranging from studies of individual books for underwriters to outputs that feed reserving and reporting forums such as the GUR and Trilogy.
  • Keep existing dashboards and tools current and fit for purpose as the wider organisation changes.

Requirements

  • A degree in a quantitative subject such as Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Economics or Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in an analytical or data-focused role. Actuarial or insurance background is an advantage.
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills, with the ability to reason abstractly about a problem and solve it with data.
  • High attention to detail, with a record of meeting deadlines and following guidelines.
  • Able to complete projects and tasks under moderate supervision.
  • Strong data manipulation skills and expertise in Excel.
  • Developing expertise in SQL and/or Python.
  • Basic knowledge of actuarial methods and statistical models.
  • Foundational knowledge of actuarial processes and a developing understanding of insurance products and terminology.
  • Experience with Power BI is a plus.
  • Ability to explain complex analysis clearly to non-technical audiences.
  • Comfortable asking for help and clarity when needed.
  • Ability to build rapport, adapt your style and stay flexible to build strong relationships.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and self-improvement.
  • Contribute to a strong team culture.
