Description

The company supports US federal government clients in defense, national security, public safety, civilian, and military health work. It is a technology firm within a larger global organization with more than 13,000+ people.

The senior cloud engineer supports a client at Hill Air Force Base by leading cloud infrastructure design and delivery for mission workloads across multi-classification environments.

As a senior individual contributor, you set direction for infrastructure as code, coach mid-level and junior engineers, and take ownership of hard infrastructure problems.

Within 90 days, you deliver new infrastructure as reusable, version-controlled Terraform or CloudFormation modules.

You act as the go-to technical authority for architecture and design questions.

You build STIG compliance and security hardening into deployment pipelines by default.

You lead root-cause analysis for Tier 3 incidents.

You make sure cross-domain data flows and classification boundaries are accurately reflected in infrastructure design.

Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and run cloud infrastructure for mission-critical government workloads across IL2 to IL6 environments
  • Lead technical design from requirements through implementation and handoff
  • Write and maintain Infrastructure as Code in Terraform, CloudFormation, and Ansible for consistent, auditable deployments
  • Design compute, storage, and networking that meet mission performance and classification constraints
  • Build and maintain security controls, STIG compliance, and vulnerability fixes
  • Work with Security Engineers and ISSOs on RMF documentation and ATO support
  • Set up identity, access, networking, and security controls under least-privilege principles
  • Review infrastructure-as-code changes and give technical feedback
  • Coach mid-level and junior engineers on design, troubleshooting, and secure practices
  • Lead resolution of complex Tier 3 incidents and write up root-cause findings
  • Work within Agile frameworks including sprints, standups, and retrospectives
  • Spot and fix infrastructure gaps and automation opportunities without waiting to be asked
  • Write up infrastructure decisions, runbooks, and operating procedures

Requirements

  • 5 years of experience in cloud engineering or infrastructure
  • 2 years in classified or highly regulated government environments
  • Experience with a cloud platform such as AWS, Azure, or multiple clouds; AWS GovCloud experience is strongly preferred
  • Hands-on work with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible
  • Experience with containers and orchestration, such as Docker or Kubernetes
  • Skill in Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automation
  • Active Secret clearance required; Top Secret clearance preferred
  • Comfortable in fast-moving environments with shifting priorities
  • Working knowledge of Agile frameworks
  • Takes ownership of outcomes beyond immediate tickets and flags gaps on their own
  • Learns quickly from mistakes and iterates fast
  • Invests in growing junior and mid-level engineers
  • Works well with ambiguity and turns loosely defined requests into concrete designs
  • Collaborates well with Security Engineers, ISSOs, and mentees
  • Optional: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field; certifications may substitute
  • Optional: Experience owning infrastructure design decisions
  • Optional: Experience with identity and access management, networking, and cloud security controls
  • Optional: Experience mentoring or leading junior engineers
  • Optional: CI/CD pipeline design and DevSecOps practice
  • Optional: Familiarity with multi-classification or cross-domain infrastructure
  • Optional: AWS or Azure certifications at Solutions Architect level or above, CompTIA Security+, or Kubernetes certifications such as CKA or CKAD
