Cloud Engineer

Description

This Cloud Engineer role (job ID BT-503) is rated at Subject Matter Expert level and is based in Herndon, VA.

The role needs deep hands-on cloud work, mainly on AWS, with Kubernetes, containers and infrastructure automation.

Requirements

• You have at least 5 years of related cloud experience, mainly on AWS.
• You have a bachelor's degree in arts or science, or an equivalent mix of education, technical certifications, training or work experience.
• You have worked with AWS services such as EC2, EKS, S3, CloudFormation, CloudWatch and IAM.
• You have worked with Azure services such as Azure VMs, Blob Storage, Azure Functions, AKS and Microsoft Entra.
• You have set up cloud networking and security resources such as AWS VPCs, subnets and PrivateLink, or the equivalent on another commercial cloud.
• You have hands-on Kubernetes experience and understand its architecture, components and ecosystem, including tools like Helm and kube-state metrics.
• You know Kubernetes deployment strategies such as rolling updates and blue-green deployments.
• You are proficient in at least one of Python, Java or TypeScript.
• You can script in Bash, PowerShell or Perl.
• You can build Dockerfiles, manage images and orchestrate containers with Docker.
• You understand core networking concepts such as TCP/IP, DNS and load balancing.
• You apply security best practices and know compliance frameworks such as NIST and FIPS.
• You are familiar with security tools such as AWS IAM, Microsoft Entra and Kubernetes RBAC.
• You have used CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD or CircleCI.
• You have used automation tools such as Ansible, Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Plus: a CKAD or CKA certification.
• Plus: experience with commercial cloud AI services such as SageMaker, Bedrock or Microsoft Foundry.

Conditions

The role is fully on-site in Herndon, VA, with no remote option.

You must hold an active Poly clearance. Candidates without one will not be considered.
