Description

The role sits in the Digital Platform Group at CNN, a digital news source with over 100 million end users, and owns the full experience of CNN's engineers from onboarding through to code reaching production.

You will work with engineering and platform teams to improve how engineers learn the platform, workflows, tooling and infrastructure, and how quickly and safely they move code from commit to deploy.

Success is measured by how fast new engineers become productive, how quickly the engineering team ships, and how safe each release is.

The company is a next-generation global media and entertainment company made up of three business segments: Studios, Direct-to-Consumer, and TV Media. Its brands include Paramount, Warner Bros., HBO and HBO Max, Paramount+, Pluto TV, CBS, CNN, CBS Sports, TNT Sports, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, MTV, Food Network, BET, HGTV and Comedy Central.

Responsibilities

  • Set the product vision, strategy, goals, metrics and roadmap for developer experience and operations, a high-complexity priority area, working closely with engineering leads who provide the technical depth.
  • Design and improve the full developer onboarding journey so engineers can learn the platform and tooling quickly and start delivering value to end users sooner.
  • Find and remove bottlenecks in the build, test and deployment pipeline to shorten commit-to-production cycle time, raise release volume and make deployments safer.
  • Drive adoption of developer platform tooling, deployment workflows and engineering operations processes, and measure usage to prove impact and guide the next iteration.
  • Work with engineering teams and data partners to produce insights that guide decisions, and actively find and close gaps in what the team knows about the developer experience.
  • Keep watch on the developer experience landscape and turn what you find into data insights that shape strategy and decisions across engineering and product.
  • Lead through influence across teams to spread best practices, improve organizational effectiveness and keep raising the standard for how engineers onboard, build, test and deploy.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of product management experience, including owning a high-complexity strategic priority area with significant ambiguity.
  • Proven experience owning internal developer tools, developer platforms or infrastructure products, with engineers as your main users.
  • Working knowledge of CI/CD, build systems, deployment pipelines and developer tooling.
  • Familiarity with DORA metrics, and experience using engineering data to find bottlenecks and inform product decisions.
  • A strong record of getting platform tooling and engineering practices adopted across a large organization.
  • A track record of leading across functions and delivering measurable results without direct authority.
  • Experience turning data into insights that shape strategy and decisions across engineering and product.
  • Ability to explain complex technical ideas in plain language that product and business leaders can act on.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication, with clear product artifacts that the wider team uses as examples of good work.

Conditions

Preferred: experience at a media company, publisher or complex multi-platform digital organization.

Preferred: background in engineering operations, incident management or deployment governance.

Preferred: a record of changing how engineering organizations work.

Preferred: familiarity with AI-assisted developer tooling and a clear view of where it does and does not meaningfully speed up engineering.

Hiring salary range is $133,000.00 to $247,000.00 per year. Actual pay depends on factors such as location, market data, internal equity, skills, experience, training, education and performance.
