Senior Production Engineer (Cloud and App Ops) - freelance

The role sits in production operations on large, international projects mainly for the European Institutions market, where the systems affect millions of citizens.

The posting is for a freelance position.

Responsibilities

• Lead the handling of major incidents and complex production problems, keeping stakeholders informed and restoring services on time.
• Lead root cause analyses and post-incident reviews, and put corrective and preventive actions in place.
• Define and keep improving monitoring, observability and operational support approaches to raise service reliability.
• Drive proactive maintenance, operational optimisation, capacity planning and performance improvement work.
• Check deployment, testing and rollback strategies together with DevSecOps, Architecture and Database Administration teams.
• Write operational reports, trend analyses, capacity assessments and service improvement recommendations.
• Lead automation and efficiency work using scripting, tooling and process changes.
• Give technical leadership, mentoring and guidance to support teams, building a culture of operational excellence.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related field.
• A Master's degree is an advantage.
• At least 7 years in enterprise IT operations or systems support, with mission-critical applications such as banking or telecommunications, including at least 3 years in a senior operations or support role.
• Deep knowledge of ITIL processes: Incident, Problem, Change, Release, Event and Capacity Management.
• Extensive experience with Linux/Unix, containerised and cloud-native platforms, and CI/CD ecosystems.
• Strong skills in observability, logging, performance monitoring and operational analytics tools.
• Proven experience supporting middleware and integration technologies, such as API management, messaging, event streaming, identity management and web platforms.
• Proven ability to lead complex incident management, capacity planning, operational risk assessment and service improvement programmes.
• Excellent English communication skills.
• French is an advantage.
• Professional certifications such as ITIL Intermediate or Managing Professional, advanced Linux, cloud platform or Kubernetes, or equivalent, are highly desirable.

Conditions

Onsite or hybrid work in Strasbourg only.

Around 7% on-call duty is expected.

Standby Allowance and Intervention Pay are provided.
