Description

The company designs, builds and runs the largest fleet of imaging satellites ever put into orbit, and sells the data through a cloud platform to customers in commercial, environmental and humanitarian work.

The company covers both space hardware and data software, handling hardware design, manufacturing, data processing and software engineering in-house.

Customers use the data to build new technologies, grow revenue, support research and tackle large global problems.

The team is spread across remote workers and offices in San Francisco, Washington DC, Germany, Austria, Slovenia and The Netherlands.

This role sits in the Direct Access Service Infrastructure team, which is building the next-generation Constellation as a Service platform. The platform goes beyond standard cloud offerings and also supports on-premises deployments.

Responsibilities

  • Build, deploy and run compute services and infrastructure inside customer environments for the satellite operations and image processing platform.
  • Design and support a reliable, scalable and available system for reproducible deployments across customer on-premises and cloud environments, taking both internal compute needs and each customer's constraints into account.
  • Architect new systems for air-gapped deployments at scale.
  • Work with cross-functional teams, including internal users and external customers, to turn unclear use cases into clear requirements.
  • Handle deployments, service orchestration and documentation for stakeholders across platforms.
  • Grow the architecture while keeping services available.
  • Improve reliability and scalability by fixing edge cases, studying failure modes and writing tests.
  • Take part in on-call rotations.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of experience building services on cloud-native infrastructure and tooling.
  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a similar field.
  • Experience deploying and maintaining bare-metal and cloud Kubernetes with tools such as Talos, RKE2, Proxmox or k3s.
  • Hands-on use of Terraform, Ansible, Helm, Kustomize and/or similar IaC and GitOps tools.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, Argo CD or CircleCI.
  • Experience building, releasing and supporting highly available services with consistent performance.
  • Understanding of how hardware and networking affect on-premises compute.
  • Experience optimising platforms, especially resource use, management and cluster tuning under constraints.
  • Ability to observe and debug distributed systems using tools such as Alloy, Prometheus, Grafana and OpenTelemetry.
  • Advanced Python and Bash, plus other tools as needed to build services and meet product goals.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across engineering teams.
  • Experience using Jira to manage tasks and track progress.
  • Nice to have: experience with CUDA-based GPU programs.
  • Nice to have: security experience in sensitive environments, such as zero-trust architectures, Kubernetes hardening, security audits and deploying workloads in air-gapped environments.
