Description

The company builds and runs the largest fleet of imaging satellites ever put into orbit, and it is both a space business and a data business.

Its cloud platform gives commercial, environmental and humanitarian organisations a large body of observation data, which customers use to build new technologies, grow revenue, support research and tackle hard problems.

Hardware, manufacturing, data processing and software are all handled in-house, so the office brings together specialists from many fields.

Teams are spread across the globe, with offices in San Francisco, Washington DC, Germany, Austria, Slovenia and The Netherlands.

Infra Solutions is a small group of engineers who can run systems as well as build them, and who handle difficult conversations as easily as code reviews. The group sits between the teams that build platform capabilities and the teams that use them, and its customers are every engineering team in the company. Teams choose to work with it because it makes their work easier, and each platform adoption means the company does not have to duplicate, secure or pay for that infrastructure again.

The role means being the first contact when a team hits an infrastructure obstacle, then doing the work to remove it: reading unfamiliar systems, running migrations, writing modules, and answering questions well enough that they stop coming back. A senior engineer supports you on the unclear parts, and much of your time is spent inside other teams' repositories, channels and problems. The work is driven by delivering value well beyond what was requested, on top of solid engineering and operations skills.

Responsibilities

  • Be the main contact for cross-team infrastructure requests, clear urgent blockers, and route complex issues to core platform owners.
  • Carry out complex workload and storage migrations across cloud environments, building proofs of concept, configuration ports and repeatable playbooks.
  • Deliver scoped technical work within team projects, working with capability owners and internal partners to meet infrastructure goals.
  • Build infrastructure tools in Go and Python, including Terraform modules, Helm charts, CLIs and client libraries, so platform adoption is consistent.
  • Write technical documentation, runbooks and worked examples that cut down repeated support questions.
  • Build observability dashboards and reports that show engineering teams their infrastructure cost, capacity and usage.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years in platform engineering, DevOps, system administration, site reliability engineering or a closely related infrastructure field.
  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Hands-on experience running, managing and debugging production workloads on Kubernetes.
  • Experience working in public cloud, preferably Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Crossplane), GitOps tools (Helm, ArgoCD) and CI/CD pipelines in GitLab.
  • Proficiency in Go or Python for automation and tooling.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional projects to completion and explain technical progress to people outside your own team.
  • Would make you stand out: experience in developer enablement, platform support or internal tooling for software engineers.
  • Would make you stand out: experience with large-scale block storage such as GCP Persistent Disk, Hyperdisk or Ceph.
  • Would make you stand out: familiarity with workflow orchestration frameworks such as Temporal, or with large-scale batch data pipelines.
  • Would make you stand out: exposure to configuring enterprise observability stacks and telemetry practices.
