Description

The company is a fintech business, not an FDIC-insured bank. Banking services are provided through Choice Financial Group and Column N.A., Members FDIC.

You will lead design for the Business Banking and Investments teams, which cover payments, accounts and treasury. These products help businesses transfer funds, manage their accounts and make uninvested cash earn returns.

As the team grows, you will answer for the quality of its output, the growth of its designers and the results of the experiences it releases.

The company wants more than cleaner versions of familiar banking flows. It wants to question how those flows work, find what customers should never have to think about, and build something clearly better. The right person can spot a promising idea, push it further and assemble people to deliver it.

Visual design carries real weight in this role, as do interaction design, simplicity and the judgment to make them work together. You should hold a clear view of excellent work and be able to show it yourself.

Success a year from now means the team's shipped products show a visibly higher bar for visual craft, interaction quality and simplicity, with new approaches that have measurable customer and business impact. Designers are driven, growing and receive recognition across the design organization for their contributions.

Responsibilities

  • Set and enforce the visual and interaction quality of everything the team ships, from the structure of complex workflows down to typography, layout, spacing and motion.
  • Give specific critique and clear direction, and review the built product, not only the design files.
  • Work with Product and Engineering to set an ambitious direction for payments, accounts and treasury.
  • Question assumptions the team has inherited, including your own, and separate real constraints from habits. Explore alternatives and turn the best ideas into simpler, more useful products.
  • Find opportunities without waiting for a brief. Bring clarity when the path is unclear, gather the right people, make decisions and clear obstacles.
  • Stay responsible after handoff and launch. Understand how customers and the business were affected, and act when results fall short.
  • Work directly on the design when your skills help, such as sketching a stronger direction, prototyping an interaction or solving a hard flow with a designer. Show what better looks like, not just describe it, while leaving ownership with the designer.
  • Make deliberate choices about scope, sequencing and where the team focuses. Raise tradeoffs early and settle them with partners. Decide which details are essential and where a simpler approach lets the team move faster without losing what matters.
  • Grow designers' taste, confidence and delivery skills. Give direct, useful feedback, set clear performance expectations and address gaps with care. Explain why the work matters, rally the team around a shared vision and make designers' contributions visible across the design organization.

Requirements

  • Strong visual and interaction design craft, shown through thoughtful typography, layout, hierarchy and interaction design in products that shipped.
  • Ability to simplify complex product experiences, including tangled workflows, information architecture and product constraints, so they become clear and intuitive.
  • Experience managing designers and raising the quality of their work, with evidence that your coaching and feedback helped them grow and improved what customers received. You can push for ambition while holding people accountable.
  • Experience setting a product vision and delivering it, linking an ambitious direction to practical choices about scope and sequencing, with shipped work and clear customer or business results.
  • Comfort staying close to the design work, sketching, prototyping and solving detailed problems alongside designers, and judging when your own contribution will help.
  • Track record of building strong partnerships with Product and Engineering, shaping priorities together, working through competing constraints and using clear storytelling to align people on design decisions.
  • Owner mindset: you act on what is best for customers and the business rather than only the brief, spot problems early, decide with incomplete information and adjust calmly when priorities change. You care more about the company improving than about whose idea wins.
  • Ability to make a persuasive case for where the product should go and why, without relying on your title. You open disagreements with curiosity, give specific reasoning and change your mind when a better idea appears. You help others commit to a high standard because they understand and believe in it.
