The company is investing in AI and in better user experience across its core newsroom products, aiming to help broadcast journalists, editors and content creators work more efficiently and make quicker, better-informed decisions across the organization.

This role sits within the team designing the next generation of editorial tools. You will work with product, engineering, research, editorial, analytics, content strategy and other designers to build efficient workflows and intuitive storytelling tools used to create news seen by millions of people worldwide.

Responsibilities

  • Work as a core member of the product design team building CNN's editorial experiences for broadcast news production, from small iterative fixes to long-term vision.
  • Produce information architecture diagrams, experience journeys, user flows, wireframes, mockups and interactive AI-powered prototypes to shape product concepts.
  • Run regular user research sessions with editorial users.
  • Carry out usability tests and turn the findings into clear recommendations.
  • Build and maintain design tokens and components for the design system.
  • Advocate for design principles, the design system and the product roadmap, keeping editorial teams' needs at the center.
  • Help shape the future of CNN's publishing platform by working with stakeholders and team members to brainstorm, envision and validate new features.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of experience as a product designer, including at least 2 recent years on content or media management systems and/or productivity tools.
  • Expert-level Figma skills, including variables, components, styles and shared libraries.
  • Hands-on AI prototyping experience with Cursor, Figma Make or similar tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Skill in using, creating and modifying design system components to build scalable, polished user experiences.
  • Experience in large or enterprise organizations, where you need patience and proactive communication at every stage of the design process. Experience in news or media is a plus.
  • Proven ability to handle complex design problems and a track record of building cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder alignment.
  • Deep knowledge of user experience design, including usability principles, user research methods, testing techniques (A/B and multivariate), design theory and interaction design, and the ability to coach others on them.
  • Bachelor's degree in design, human-computer interaction (HCI) or equivalent professional experience.
  • Willingness to get hands-on and get work done.
