Description

The firm is a diversified trading firm, over 30 years old, that trades its own capital across global markets. It is headquartered in Chicago with offices in the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Asia.

The firm trades fixed income, ETFs, equities, FX, commodities, and energy across major global markets, and has also moved into real estate, venture capital, and cryptoassets.

The team is built around trading, risk, and technology. The role works directly with portfolio managers, traders, and quantitative researchers across several desks and asset classes.

The pace is quick and collaborative, and the work calls for solid product and market knowledge, strong technical skills, and clear judgement when things are urgent.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the main contact for portfolio managers, traders, and quantitative researchers across rates, FX, commodities, equities, and crypto for any issue affecting risk or valuation.
  • Find problems in the internal risk and valuation systems before they are reported, then trace each one through the applications, APIs, databases, messaging, and underlying services it relies on.
  • Fix issues across the full stack and keep the work moving quickly.
  • Rank incidents by how much they could affect trading, portfolio management, and P&L.
  • When you cannot fix an issue yourself, find the right engineering, quantitative, or infrastructure team and hand it off with a clear, reproducible diagnosis that speeds up the fix.
  • Work with Engineering and Product Management to spot recurring problems and propose longer-term technology fixes.
  • Build Python tools and scripts that automate diagnostics, analyse data, and improve workflows.
  • Learn how the firm's trading and risk infrastructure fits together, including how systems depend on the services beneath them.

Requirements

  • Deep knowledge of cash instruments, futures, swaps, and options, and of the markets they trade in, plus strong technical skills.
  • Prior experience in trade support, trading technology, production support, or a closely related role in a live trading environment, covering several desks or asset classes.
  • Ability to write Python and SQL to investigate issues, automate checks, and query and reconcile data across systems.
  • Familiarity with production monitoring tools such as log aggregation, dashboards, and alerting.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the discipline to narrow an issue down step by step.
  • Clear communication with a mixed audience of portfolio managers, traders, quantitative researchers, engineers, and product managers.
  • Strong market and product knowledge combined with technical depth, commercial awareness, and comfort working where trading meets technology.
  • Able to take a vague report such as "my risk numbers look wrong", understand what the front office is aiming for, investigate the systems involved, locate the failure, and either fix it or send it to the right team with a clear diagnosis.
  • Success is judged by problem solving and strong relationships with the people running the trading strategies, not by how many tickets are closed.
