Description

Cancer and translational scientists move from sample to insight through linked omics systems covering sample metadata, data processing, a molecular data warehouse, a cancer genomics portal, and single-cell and spatial tools.

You will own the roadmap, vendor relationships and quality for the genomics portal and the single-cell and spatial tools first, then support the rest of that chain.

The work centres on FAIR data, availability for users worldwide, and links to the AI agents scientists are starting to use.

You will partner with computational biologists, translational scientists, engineers, external vendors, open-source partners, procurement and finance.

The ideal candidate reads omics data scientifically, manages products and vendors well, and can decide what to keep, renew or replace.

Posted 26-oct-2026. Closing date 08-nov-2026. Reference: EAI.

Responsibilities

  • Set and reorder the roadmap and backlog for the genomics portal and the single-cell and spatial platforms, working with engineering and vendors.
  • Support the owners of the other platforms in the chain and track how data moves between them.
  • Keep a live record of each platform's users, usage, cost and risks.
  • Make sure commercial vendors and open-source partners deliver to the agreed scope.
  • Build the case for renewals and license changes, covering usage, cost per user and alternatives, with procurement and finance.
  • Scout successor options early so that contract end dates never force a rushed decision.
  • Hold platforms to agreed service levels and coordinate incidents, releases and upgrades with engineering and support.
  • Manage access, onboarding and training for users across regions, and gather their feedback for the roadmap.
  • Plan regional deployments or instances, such as for users in China or Japan.
  • Apply FAIR principles and metadata standards with data owners and platform engineers.
  • Specify governed ways for AI agents and tools to reach platform data, with security and data owners.
  • Close ownership gaps between platforms, such as sample identifiers and shared metadata.
  • Ensure platforms meet data privacy, access approval and data residency rules, including controls for human-derived data.
  • Complete governance and AI reviews for platforms adding AI features, and keep audit documentation current.
  • Track infrastructure, license and contractor spend against plan, and flag overruns early.
  • Feed run cost and options into planning cycles.
  • Communicate platform availability, limits and plans clearly to scientists, engineers, vendors, procurement and finance.

Requirements

  • 5+ years working with or managing omics data platforms or bioinformatics tools, ideally in pharma or translational research.
  • Experience as a product owner or product manager, or equivalent ownership of a scientific platform.
  • Understanding of genomic, transcriptomic, and single-cell and spatial data and how scientists use it.
  • Experience managing vendors, licenses and renewals, including working with procurement.
  • Fluency with FAIR data principles and metadata standards.
  • Working knowledge of cloud-based data environments and how scientific platforms are run and supported.
  • Understanding of data privacy and the controlled handling of human-derived data.
  • Able to communicate with both scientists and engineers.
  • Desirable: experience with open-source scientific software and its communities.
  • Desirable: familiarity with AI agents and how they connect to scientific data.
  • Desirable: experience with oncology data.
  • Desirable: working knowledge of Atlassian tools (JIRA, Confluence).
