Senior Software Engineer, AI-Native Development - Evinova

Description

This is an in-office role in Barcelona, Spain, requiring on-site presence at least three days per week. Remote work and travel flexibility are not offered.

The team builds AI-native software that speeds up clinical trials and supports better patient outcomes. AI is a core working tool here, not an add-on. The products help simplify trial participation for patients and professionals, and help therapies reach the people who need them.

You will ship production code every day and own your work from start to finish. Duties include designing and building backend services, contributing to modern frontend work, and bringing AI features into the product suite.

You will also help set the team's way of building with AI, including conventions for AI-assisted development, prompt engineering patterns, and quality checks for AI-generated code. Your influence will show in delivery right away and in the engineering practices that follow.

Responsibilities

• Write clean, well-tested, production-ready code across backend and frontend, owning features from design through deployment and monitoring.
• Design and build LLM-powered workflows, automation, and AI-driven user experiences, along with prompt patterns, evaluation frameworks, and test strategies. Review all AI-generated code critically.
• Build scalable backend and BFF services, REST and GraphQL APIs, and data streaming pipelines that meet reliability, performance, and compliance requirements.
• Work on React and React Native applications when full-stack ownership calls for it, keeping user experiences consistent and high quality.
• Investigate complex production incidents, find root causes, and make preventive fixes. Improve monitoring and resilience to protect service levels.
• Work with platform and DevOps colleagues on infrastructure as code, CI/CD pipelines, automated deployment and recovery, and container orchestration.
• Apply disciplined engineering practices and produce the evidence needed to meet validation expectations in regulated environments.
• Raise team standards through thorough code reviews. Coach peers on AI-assisted development and modern workflows. Take part in agile planning, estimation, and retrospectives.
• Ship features and platform capabilities early, then extend your reach by shaping AI-first practices and reusable components used by several product teams.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of professional experience shipping production software.
• Solid skills in at least one backend language, such as Java or Node.js, plus TypeScript, React, and React Native on the frontend.
• Experience building and running REST and GraphQL APIs, with a good grasp of HTTP, JSON, and OpenAPI.
• Experience with document databases such as MongoDB, and with data streaming tools such as Kafka.
• Daily hands-on use of AI-assisted development tools, and the ability to explain how they change your design, coding, testing, and review work.
• Experience building or integrating AI or LLM features into production applications, beyond experiments or prototypes.
• Working knowledge of CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps, and of containers with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with AWS cloud services.
• Strong testing habits, including unit and integration tests and BDD frameworks such as Cucumber.
• Familiarity with regulated or compliance-sensitive software environments.
• Nice to have: experience building agentic AI systems, including multi-step LLM workflows, tool use, and evaluation and observability for AI features.
• Nice to have: experience with clinical trial software, eCOA, medical devices, or healthcare and life sciences technology.
• Nice to have: familiarity with GxP or SaMD validation processes.
• Nice to have: experience designing solutions for complex projects in large organisations, open-source contributions, or visible technical writing and speaking.
