Description

The company was founded in 2014 to change how emergency veterinary care works, with 24/7/365 hospitals across the country. Its headquarters team, called VQ, builds the technology, recruiting, and marketing that keep those hospitals running. The company has been certified as a Great Place to Work in both 2025 and 2026.

This role leads the data and analytics platform that helps teams across the company decide faster and with better information. You set the direction and priorities for your data domain, then work with Data Engineering to build it. You turn vague business questions into data products that can be built, set the bar for data quality and documentation, and become the person other teams ask about what the data means. You will join a small team with direct access to senior leadership and real influence over decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Own the data product roadmap. Manage and rank the data engineering backlog for your domain by business value, technical feasibility, and strategic fit. Work with Data Engineering on sequencing and resourcing, and bring tradeoffs to senior leadership and core users.
  • Turn unclear requests into scoped specs. Connect the teams that need data with the engineers who build it. Before any work starts, establish the decision to be made, the metric or tool needed, the audience, and what a good outcome looks like.
  • Advise source system owners. Act as a thought partner to owners of HRIS, scheduling, and clinical systems on configuration and schema choices that shape downstream data quality and usability.
  • Protect data quality and reliability. Design and run QA on new and changed data assets. Test logic, look for edge cases, and check joins and transformations. Maintain validation queries and dashboards, and during outages explain what is broken, why, and when it will be fixed.
  • Keep documentation complete and accurate. Make sure every asset has clear metric definitions, business rules, known limitations, and intended use, so people can answer their own questions and ask fewer per asset over time.
  • Help teams use data well. Support analytics and business teams in working with your domain's data correctly. Watch for where they get stuck, and use those findings to improve assets, documentation, and onboarding.

Requirements

  • Strong SQL and real comfort with databases and data warehouses such as Snowflake. You write original queries, validate joins, investigate anomalies, and find logic errors on your own.
  • Experience with data pipelines, dimensional models, or semantic layers. You know what makes raw source data ready for analysis and where it tends to fail.
  • A proven record of identifying the real job behind a business problem, turning it into structured data requirements, and managing a roadmap or backlog in a fast-changing environment.
  • Clear, confident communication. You can explain complex data concepts to non-technical people and push back on vague or underscoped requests in a credible way.
  • An early-adopter attitude toward fast-moving AI tools, and a drive to use them to improve your own work and your team's.
  • A BA, BS, or equivalent experience, with a background in analytics, data engineering, business intelligence, or a related field.
  • Empathy. You take a people-first approach, supporting colleagues and making an effort to understand other viewpoints.
  • Humility. You admit mistakes, share credit, and highlight your team's achievements.
  • Ownership. You take responsibility for outcomes and stay committed to long-term, meaningful results.
  • Curiosity. You ask good questions and keep looking for ways to learn and build your skills.

Conditions

The role is based at the headquarters, where in-person time is part of how the team works together. Free parking and a shuttle from the White Plains Metro-North station are available.

The company welcomes people from all backgrounds and aims to give everyone fair access to growth and a voice in decisions.

Benefits

  • Base pay of $140,000 to $160,000, plus a bonus and benefits.
  • Health and wellness coverage that starts on day one, plus free therapy or counseling.
  • Paid parental leave of up to 12 weeks at 100% of regular salary, along with fertility and family-building care for all kinds of families.
  • Unlimited PTO, usable for vacation or sick days.
  • An employee referral program with a generous reward.
  • Casual office dress, pet-friendly workplace, VEG merchandise, stocked kitchen, and free lunches twice a week.
  • A company laptop and a monthly cell phone reimbursement.
