Description

The company makes thermal management, building systems, energy efficiency and decarbonization products and services that help customers use energy more efficiently and cut carbon emissions.

It serves customers in industries such as data centers, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, advanced manufacturing and higher education, where precision and uptime matter.

The company has been in business for more than 140 years and combines technology, lifecycle services and a large field organization.

As the on-site lead for assigned HVAC controls projects, you run construction management and execution from pre-construction planning through commissioning and closeout.

You coordinate the internal team, subcontractors, field staff and customers so each project is delivered safely, on time, on budget and to contract.

You handle planning, scheduling, resourcing, cost control, change management, risk, quality checks and construction records, and you lead project meetings and track progress against milestones.

The role balances customer satisfaction with project profit while following company processes and construction and project management standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead assigned HVAC controls projects from hardware design and system programming through installation, commissioning and closeout.
  • Run daily work with subcontractors, electrical installers, technicians, designers and administrative support as needed.
  • Track project finances, including costs, billings, collections, cash flow and gross margin.
  • Keep regular contact with customers in every phase and help build lasting relationships.
  • Review contract scope, field directives, bulletins and schedule changes, and pursue change orders for added work.
  • Handle procurement: choose materials, place orders, compare vendor pricing, check availability and manage delivery dates.
  • Oversee loading, device verification, system checkout and commissioning of controllers and related equipment.
  • Confirm the full system works, resolve issues, and make sure the final installation meets project requirements.
  • Produce accurate as-built records, commissioning documentation, manuals and warranty paperwork.
  • Train owners and operators on how to run the system at their site.
  • Attend progress meetings, report status, and forecast revenue, costs and margin when required.
  • Make sure work meets applicable safety standards and legal requirements.
  • Take ownership of each project, putting safety and integrity first and delivering to the required standard.
  • Stay close to the jobsite and the customer, communicate actively, solve problems quickly and clear obstacles.
  • Plan with discipline and follow through so scope, schedule, cost and quality stay aligned.
  • Escalate risks and changes early, and keep documentation accurate.
  • Work with customers, subcontractors, vendors and colleagues as one team.
  • Explain technical details in plain terms to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Watch billings, collections and budget closely to balance customer expectations with financial results.
  • Coach and mentor crew members and give technical guidance when needed.
  • Apply company standards for installation, commissioning and field execution.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in construction management, engineering technology, HVAC technology, building automation systems or a related field, plus at least four years managing, coordinating or doing HVAC, building automation, controls or commercial construction work.
  • Hands-on experience designing, installing, starting up, commissioning and handing over digital HVAC or building automation control systems.
  • Solid HVAC controls knowledge, including control theory, HVAC equipment operation and building automation systems (BAS).
  • Proven construction management experience in planning, scheduling, resource coordination, subcontractor management and field oversight.
  • Working knowledge of construction processes, contract administration, project documentation, change orders, requests for information (RFIs), submittal reviews and closeout.
  • Ability to read construction drawings, specifications, control schematics, sequences of operation and project schedules.
  • Understanding of project accounting, budgeting, forecasting, cost control, earned value and project financial management.
  • Knowledge of construction safety rules, jobsite coordination, risk management, quality control and applicable industry standards.
  • Commitment to high standards of safety, professionalism, ethics and customer satisfaction.
  • Experience managing scope, labor productivity, material procurement and profitability while delivering good customer outcomes.
  • Customer-facing background with strong organization, leadership and relationship skills, and a record of leading projects through all phases of execution.
  • Clear verbal and written communication, including explaining technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, customers, contractors and team members.
  • Ability to work independently across several projects, priorities, deadlines and competing stakeholder needs.
  • Proficiency with Windows, Microsoft Excel, project management software, scheduling tools and other business applications.
  • Preferred: bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, engineering technology, building automation systems, HVAC technology or a related discipline, with demonstrated project management, construction administration and field operations leadership experience.
