Description

Company Overview

At Motorola Solutions, we believe that everything starts with our people. We’re a global close-knit community, united by the relentless pursuit to help keep people safer everywhere. We build and connect technologies to help protect people, property and places. Our solutions foster the collaboration that’s critical for safer communities, safer schools, safer hospitals, safer businesses, and ultimately, safer nations. Connect with a career that matters, and help us build a safer future.

Department Overview

Are you passionate about creating products with real-world impact? Do you believe that comprehensive, user-centric design can address the complex challenges facing public safety today? At Motorola Solutions, we seek to innovate in our ongoing pursuit of solving for safer. We develop truly essential, professional tools — from emergency call-taking and dispatch systems to video security solutions, first responder applications and tools for investigation. Join our diverse, AI-forward, multidisciplinary design team and find work partners looking to collaborate and blur the boundaries of traditional design.

We are looking for an experienced UX Manager to lead an existing team of designers and help drive the creation of advanced systems for public safety applications used in the incident workflow. We are in the midst of transforming our design approach—transitioning from a mockup-centric model to one oriented around working code ("System over Artifacts"). We are seeking a leader with a high agency mindset who will operationally implement this new process, relying on close collaboration with engineering and design partners and the active adoption of new working models, including, but not limited to, AI tools.

Basic Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Team Management, Mentoring & Change Leadership: Build a strong, highly motivated team of UX/UI designers. Set goals, support craft development, maintain team morale, and collaborate with design leadership inside and outside your direct team to help support alignment across product spaces. Actively support and lead the team's transition toward a more AI-integrated design workflow.
  • End-to-End Design & AI Prototyping: Actively guide and grow the team through an evolution in design process; including the creation of functional prototypes, working code, and the integration of new technology, such as AI, into workflows. Ensure strict adherence to our design system, and help the team set high standards around accessible and quality design.
  • AI Literacy & Process Optimization: The world of design is changing, and we expect our leaders to champion these opportunities for growth. A successful candidate will implement and champion new tools and processes, including AI, within the team to accelerate user research analysis, automate repetitive tasks in design, rapidly generate layout variations, assist with documentation, validate output and improve the overall efficiency of the team's work. As an advocate, our leaders will also help the team grow in the use of AI and other emerging tools while maintaining their human-centered approach to design.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as the strongest advocate for the user in discussions with Product Managers and Development Leads. Ensure that business requirements and technical constraints align to deliver an optimal user experience.
  • Resource Management: Effectively allocate design resources to priority product initiatives while ensuring the team retains dedicated time for innovation and exploring new solutions.
  • What We Expect (Requirements):
  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience leading and managing small to medium design teams, supported by 7+ years of overall hands-on experience in UX/Product Design.
  • Solid, hands-on UX/UI foundation, demonstrated through examples of prior design at a senior / leadership level.
  • Understanding of front-end architecture (HTML/CSS, basics of native UI libraries) and experience collaborating closely with development. Experience publishing shipping code is beneficial, but not a requirement..
  • A demonstrable process of workflow optimization using AI, and a track record of exploration, with opinions on how AI and Design will merge in the coming months and years.
  • Ability to navigate organizational change with empathy, specifically in upskilling and transforming the team's capabilities.
  • In return for your expertise, we’ll support you in this new challenge with coaching & development every step of the way.
  • Also, to reward your work you’ll get:
