Description

The user experience practice is looking for a UX/UI designer to work alongside product, engineering and delivery teams. You will partner with product managers, product owners and domain experts to shape an evidence-based product vision for a complex power automation engineering environment.

The systems involved mix configuration workflows, several applications and interfaces of different generations, specialised user roles, operations where safety and reliability matter, and dependencies between software, devices and engineering processes.

You will work independently on UX and UI for engineering applications. The job covers research based on product needs, planning UX and UI work, mapping complex engineering workflows, interviewing stakeholders and users, assessing the usability of existing applications, and producing well-grounded UX deliverables.

Strong communication, sound problem framing, proactive ownership, attention to detail, reliable delivery, and the ability to build working relationships with stakeholders through evidence and design thinking are all central to the role.

At the start, the focus is on understanding the engineering environment, workflows, target users, risks and product opportunities, so that future product and design decisions rest on a solid base.

Responsibilities

  • Run an end-to-end design thinking process from start to finish.
  • Work with product and engineering stakeholders to define business goals, scope, assumptions and the decisions that need to be made.
  • Go through existing documentation, issue reports, backlog items, designs, training materials and technical artefacts.
  • Prepare research activities, interview guides, usability test scenarios and methods for synthesising information.
  • Run stakeholder interviews and user interviews, including contextual and workflow-focused ones.
  • Map multi-stage engineering and configuration workflows, covering inputs, outputs, decisions, dependencies, error cases, handovers and workarounds.
  • Find where workflows break apart across applications, scripts, documents or manual steps.
  • Separate validated evidence from assumptions, stakeholder opinions and technical constraints.
  • Turn findings into role-based user archetypes, jobs-to-be-done, journey or workflow maps, service blueprints, use cases and clear problem statements.
  • Link research evidence, user needs, risks, application capabilities and UX recommendations in a traceable way.
  • Maintain a prioritised UX opportunity backlog and feed UX evidence into product strategy and roadmap decisions.
  • Define UX and UI requirements so the experience stays consistent across all touchpoints.
  • Present complex findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of professional UX experience, including Information Architecture, Product Design or Service Design work with a strong research element.
  • Hands-on work on at least one substantial UX/UI project for a complex enterprise, industrial, engineering, scientific, healthcare, financial, cybersecurity or other specialist system.
  • Experience researching complex workflows or systems.
  • Ability to model complicated dependencies and alternative flows.
  • Proof that you have taken unclear and conflicting stakeholder input and turned it into a workable design delivery plan.
  • Strong synthesis skills, including affinity analysis, workflow mapping, service blueprinting, user archetypes, jobs-to-be-done and problem framing.
  • Experience running UX audits or heuristic evaluations of mature applications.
  • Ability to present research findings concisely, in a form that helps people make decisions.
  • Ability to work on your own.
  • Professional English for interviews, workshops and documentation in an international setting.
  • Plus: a bachelor's degree in design, computer science, information sciences and/or HCI.
  • Plus: experience facilitating workshops with senior, technical and cross-functional participants.
  • Strong plus: experience with industrial automation, energy, utilities, engineering software, products that combine software with physical devices or embedded systems, or configuration tools.
