The company is an AI research and deployment company that builds general-purpose AI and brings it to people through its products. The ChatGPT team spans research, engineering, product and design, and serves a varied group of people who already use it every day.

The company aims to learn from real-world use and spread the benefits of AI responsibly, and it puts safety ahead of unchecked growth.

You would join the Content Design team, where prompt engineering and AI evaluation sit alongside content craft and product judgment.

Your main focus is helping people find ChatGPT's value, get started and keep using it, including through notifications. You will also support wider Content Design work as the team's needs change.

Responsibilities

• Set content strategy for experiences that help people discover ChatGPT, begin using it and return to useful tasks.
• Build, test and refine prompt frameworks that generate product content and messaging.
• Set content quality standards and create evaluations, datasets and reviewer guidelines that combine human judgment with automated checks.
• Build tools and workflows to generate, review and improve content for experiments and product experiences.
• Examine model outputs and evaluation results to find problems and improve content systems as models, products and user needs change.
• Work with product, engineering, design, research and data science to link content quality to user understanding, trust, engagement and retention.
• Write up reusable approaches and coach other Content Designers on writing prompts, setting evaluation criteria and reading results.

Requirements

• 5+ years in content design, content engineering or a related field, including work across complex product areas.
• Hands-on experience writing prompts for shipped generative AI experiences, with a clear view of model strengths, limits and failure patterns.
• Experience designing and building content evaluation frameworks and checking how reliably they measure quality.
• Hands-on use of code and APIs to build repeatable generation and evaluation workflows, and the ability to work with Engineering to put them into production.
• Strong writing, editorial and content strategy skills you can apply across product experiences.
• Ability to turn qualitative and quantitative evidence into clear recommendations and show how your work improved content quality, team effectiveness or product outcomes.
• Ability to work across technical and nontechnical teams, adding structure and clarity to ambiguous problems and changing requirements.

Conditions

Based in San Francisco, CA, on a hybrid model with 3 days in the office per week.
