Description

The role leads the physical network infrastructure build and deployment at a site, coordinating installation and readiness with the central network team and contracted installers.

You are the on-site lead for physical network construction, directing general contractors, specialist contractors and other service providers in your discipline. You pair hands-on subject knowledge with field leadership and manage contracted crews to deliver safe, high-quality work that follows the integrated construction plan.

You report to the Site Construction Manager, who reports through project management leadership. You stay aligned functionally with the Network Infrastructure leader and the central network engineering team.

You run day-to-day discipline work and contractor performance within the assigned site scope and delegated authority. Priorities and interfaces go through the Site Construction Manager, and material cost, schedule, design and acceptance decisions go to the right owners.

This is a senior site delivery role for an experienced superintendent, supervisor, manager or trade lead. You are accountable for an assigned discipline and work packages. Site assignment, duration and shared coverage depend on project phase, workload and the staffing plan, and on-site coverage is required during critical activities.

Responsibilities

  • Direct structured-cabling, fiber, network installation and other service contractors against the site delivery plan.
  • Turn approved network designs into field work packages, and coordinate bills of materials, material availability and installation sequence with the central network team.
  • Oversee pathways, duct banks, building entry, fiber and copper cabling, racks, patching, labeling and equipment installation.
  • Lead fiber and cabling quality checks, review test results and traceability, and make sure defective or incomplete work gets corrected.
  • Align power, cooling, space and physical access readiness with electrical, mechanical and CSLA leads and hardware deployment teams.
  • Work with authorized network engineering and operations teams on provisioning, connectivity checks and handover, and keep installation and as-built records up to date.
  • Set contractor deliverables and priorities, track staffing, progress and quality, flag constraints early, and drive recovery through the Site Construction Manager.
  • Report progress and risk concisely, assess field impact of proposed changes, and keep handoffs between construction partners and the company teams clean and accountable.

Requirements

  • Typically 8 to 10 years of large-scale data center network deployment, structured cabling, physical-layer installation or infrastructure delivery, with proven field and contractor leadership. Equivalent hands-on delivery experience will also be considered.
  • Solid grasp of physical data center network topology, components, bills of materials, rack limits and installation sequencing, and the ability to turn designs into field plans.
  • Strong practical knowledge of fiber and copper plant work: trunks, panels, terminations, cleaning, labeling, cable management, routing diversity and pathway separation.
  • Able to oversee and assess port-to-port verification, continuity, optical power and OTDR testing, and to troubleshoot installation and mapping discrepancies and confirm fixes.
  • Experience writing contractor work packages and statements of work, assessing delivery requirements, forecasting labor, and tracking quality, throughput, cost drivers and schedule within delegated authority.
  • Experience aligning deployment prerequisites with engineering and construction teams and completing formal handover with as-builts, port maps, test evidence and clear ownership transfer.
  • Comfortable with ticket-based work, change control, incident escalation and documentation that keeps installation repeatable and auditable.
  • Proven ability to lead contractors and service providers through changing conditions, set clear deliverables and acceptance criteria, and close performance gaps across organizations without direct reporting authority.
  • Strong written and verbal communication. You keep accurate field records and action and decision logs, and explain technical risks, schedule impact and recovery options to site leaders, engineers and partners.
  • Good judgment when information is incomplete: you identify assumptions, prerequisites and interfaces, decide what can proceed within your authority, and escalate open risks before they affect safety, quality or delivery.
  • Relevant trade, apprenticeship, technical or degree preparation, or equivalent practical experience. Field leadership and subject-matter skill are central to this role.

Conditions

Site assignment, duration and shared coverage follow project phase, workload and the staffing plan, with on-site coverage needed during critical activities.
