Description

The company builds technologies that help protect people, property and places, with the aim of making communities, schools, hospitals, businesses and nations safer.

The team is a multidisciplinary, AI-forward design group that works with partners to challenge traditional design boundaries.

The company makes specialised professional tools, including emergency call-taking and dispatch systems, video security, first responder applications and investigation tools.

This role writes the words users rely on in high-stakes moments, such as a call handler taking a 911/999 call, a police officer checking a plate, or an investigator building a timeline.

You will work with UX designers, accessibility specialists, the design systems team and software partners to keep language consistent, clear and intuitive across applications and services.

Your focus areas include onboarding and navigation, system states, notifications and microcopy, and error messages that people read at 3 a.m. in the middle of an incident.

You will work in Figma from the start, helping shape product decisions rather than labelling them afterwards.

You will learn the UK public safety domain, including how users communicate, which terms are critical, and when plain language works better than sector jargon. You do not need to be an expert on day one, but you should be curious enough to become one.

Responsibilities

  • Write and refine clear UI text, onboarding flows, navigation, error messages and microcopy for complex digital products.
  • Own the product tone of voice and content design guidelines, and update them as the software suite grows.
  • Join designers, researchers and product managers from discovery through launch, early enough to influence design decisions.
  • Test and improve content using qualitative user research, field feedback and usability testing.
  • Build a deep working knowledge of public safety terminology, and decide deliberately where domain-specific language belongs.
  • Contribute language patterns, component copy guidelines and content standards to the design system.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience writing product copy or content for complex web and mobile digital products.
  • A portfolio that shows how you solved problems through product copy, including your design thinking and trade-offs, not only final strings. It should focus on product interface work, not marketing or copywriting.
  • A solid grounding in user-centred design (UCD) principles and hands-on experience in Figma or similar tools.
  • The judgement to balance user needs, brand voice and business constraints, and the ability to explain your choices to stakeholders.
  • Experience working with accessibility specialists on WCAG standards to make language clear and accessible to everyone.
  • Bonus: experience contributing content patterns or guidelines to a design system, especially if you have built the language part of one yourself.
