Description

The company builds quantum processors and uses its own VIO architecture, which it says removes the hardware limits that have slowed quantum computing, with the goal of MegaQubit processors.

This is a new role in a Project Management Office the company is setting up. You report to the PMO Lead and run day-to-day management of one or two development programs, keeping schedules, responsibilities and risks visible across development and production. The environment is technical and moves quickly, and you will help set the program discipline the wider company will later adopt.

Responsibilities

  • Own top-level execution and delivery of your assigned programs.
  • Work with project and discipline leads on cross-department programs to keep them on schedule and within budget.
  • Run the daily execution of your programs, including handoffs between departments.
  • Lead program management work for your programs, including building schedules, baselining, and running gate reviews.
  • Spot risks and bottlenecks early and plan for likely failure modes and fallbacks.
  • Raise risks and blockers with the right stakeholders without delay.
  • Coach junior program managers on program execution and working together as leaders.
  • Help the PMO Lead introduce shared terminology, the product lifecycle, and team rhythms for programs.
  • Help deliver program management training across the organization.

Requirements

  • More than 6 years of experience, including more than 4 years managing delivery of complex, research-intensive chip hardware projects as a program manager.
  • Experience leading programs that span functions and departments.
  • Experience working closely with highly specialised technical experts.
  • Experience in a fast-moving start-up or scale-up, balancing hands-on technical leadership with team growth, is a strong advantage.
  • Ability to learn quickly in a highly technical, early-stage field, without a deep quantum computing background on day one.
  • Ability to turn a long-term strategy into an execution plan for program teams.
  • Strong analytical skills and the judgement to make sound, pragmatic decisions under uncertainty.
  • Ability to bring together leading technical experts and project leads to deliver complex programs.
  • MSc, PhD, or equivalent experience in physics, electrical engineering, microwave or RF engineering, semiconductor technology, or a related field.
  • Understanding of the development lifecycle for chip-level technologies. Experience with superconducting qubits or cryogenic systems is a strong advantage.
  • Clear communicator who can motivate teams, build alignment, and explain program management ideas to technical audiences.
  • Work with stakeholders across the organization, including product, research and development, operations, and management.
  • Fluent English.
  • Do not meet every point above? Apply anyway. Nobody meets them all, and the list describes an ideal candidate rather than a filter. If most of it fits and you are keen to close the gaps, apply. The company hires for potential as well as current skills.

Conditions

Hybrid working, with a focus on outcomes rather than hours.

Equal opportunity employer.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary that reflects the impact of the role, plus an 8% holiday allowance.
  • Pension plan designed to last, covering partners and dependents.
  • Open vacation policy and hybrid setup that lets you manage your own time.
  • Learning and development budget for each team member, based on personal ambitions, development needs, and performance.
  • Team events, offsites, and informal get-togethers.
