Description

The company builds long-lived, product-led squads that own the services they create from end to end.

You will work in a collaborative engineering setting that values practical delivery, automation, security, quality, learning and continuous improvement.

This role leads technical delivery within one squad and combines that with hands-on engineering. The Lead Engineer sits above it and leads engineering across squads.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical design and delivery for the squad while still writing code.
  • Turn product priorities into solutions that are secure, scalable and easy to support.
  • Guide estimation, breaking work down, managing dependencies and making pragmatic technical choices.
  • Own technical delivery from discovery through release and live support.
  • Set standards for code quality, automated testing, security, documentation, observability and operational readiness.
  • Improve CI/CD pipelines and deployment practices so releases are safe and repeatable.
  • Promote peer review, pairing, test-first thinking, small releases and continuous refactoring.
  • Coach engineers through reviews, pairing and knowledge sharing.
  • Surface technical debt, risks and operational issues, and lead proportionate responses.
  • Use DORA, quality and service measures to guide improvement.
  • Work with Architecture, Cloud, Security and platform teams within agreed guardrails.
  • Support incident investigations and turn what they reveal into preventative improvements.

Requirements

  • Solid software engineering background, including technical leadership in an agile team.
  • Advanced full-stack skills in.NET and modern web technologies.
  • Experience designing, building and supporting services hosted on Azure.
  • Strong knowledge of CI/CD, automated testing, version control and DevOps.
  • Good judgement on APIs, integrations, data, resilience, security and maintainability.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and explaining technical trade-offs clearly.
  • Experience in Build and Run work, including production support and service improvement.

Conditions

1 year fixed term contract.

Negotiable basic salary, plus benefits.

Work in a long-lived, product-led, stream-aligned squad with clear service ownership.

Follow a Build and Run model: design, build, test, deploy, monitor, support and improve the squad's services.

Work from a transparent, prioritised backlog and deliver value in small increments through a regular agile cadence.

Take part in planning, refinement, daily collaboration, reviews, retrospectives, demos and showcases.

Apply the Definition of Ready and Definition of Done, covering testing, security, documentation and operational readiness.

Automate builds, tests, security checks, deployments and repeatable environment tasks wherever practical.

Release in small, safe steps and use feedback and delivery data to improve.

Work within shared architecture, cloud, security and platform guardrails.

Use approved engineering and AI-assisted tools with proper security controls and human review.

You will partner closely with Product and Delivery.
