Description

The team builds user interfaces and embeddable solutions that improve how the company's customers and their cardholders experience its card issuing platform, which lets companies issue cards, authorize transactions and run payment operations in real time.

The company is an early player in embedded finance and powers well-known brands in the new economy. You do not need prior payments experience to start.

The hiring process runs as follows: a recruiter call, a hiring manager video call, a virtual onsite of four or five 45-minute calls, then an offer. Jamie Guidry, Senior Manager, Software Engineering, is the hiring manager. Kayla Osuna is the recruiter for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, test and keep improving user interfaces and the backend services behind them.
  • Define and deliver well-scoped project milestones, and act as technical lead on some projects.
  • Keep customer needs central, working with product stakeholders to pick technical solutions that deliver value quickly.
  • Coach less-experienced teammates through guidance and example.
  • Write clear, adaptable code with few bugs that is flexible, reusable where it counts and efficient.
  • Spot gaps, question the current approach and propose new plans.
  • Lead design for medium-sized components or features, and take part in design for larger ones, moving from task-level to project-level impact.
  • Own a component or feature of the system in a significant way.
  • Design components on your own for well-scoped cases, favouring simplicity and maintainability, so they are testable, debuggable and have APIs that are hard to misuse.
  • Take part in on-call coverage.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of hands-on software engineering with a Bachelor's degree, or 3 years with a Master's degree, or 8 years with a PhD.
  • Without a degree, 8+ years of relevant experience may be enough.
  • 2+ years of backend work in any object-oriented language.
  • Working knowledge of OAuth 2.0, JWTs and user session management.
  • Hands-on work with a modern Java backend stack using Spring Boot and Kubernetes on AWS.
  • Building and consuming RESTful APIs.
  • Experience with JavaScript and Node.js.
  • Building scalable microservices on cloud platforms such as AWS (preferred), Azure or GCP.
  • Strong analysis, problem solving and attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, with the ability to work across functions and deliver a project.
  • Experience with modern engineering practices and tools such as CI/CD, containerized apps and Agile (Scrum).
  • Share relevant information, including when task-level trade-offs will affect the product.
  • Work with cross-functional stakeholders to find technical blind spots and resolve unclear requirements.
  • Nice to have: domain experience in payments or fintech more broadly.
  • Nice to have: building scalable applications with at least one modern frontend framework such as React, Angular, VueJS or NextJS.
  • Nice to have: experience with highly available distributed systems, including sharding, replication, load balancing and caching.
