Senior Full Stack Engineer

Description

The team includes technologists, designers and product strategists who modernise existing systems, build new products and rescue projects that have stalled. They use current cloud-native and AI-enabled tools and combine Agile, Lean and design thinking to work through each client's most urgent problems.

Much of the work is in regulated sectors such as healthcare, financial services, government and education. Recent examples include detecting diseases, finding children who need special educational support, using AI to assist with complex legal settlements, and making mental health services easier to reach.

Responsibilities

• As a Senior Full Stack Developer, you will lead work across the whole software lifecycle, from early concept design through deployment and monitoring.
• Build reliable, scalable and cost-efficient backend services in Python on AWS, using Lambda, API Gateway, RDS, DynamoDB, SQS and EventBridge.
• Design and build event-sourced systems and event-driven pipelines that keep a full state history, stay auditable, and handle message processing with idempotency and eventual consistency.
• Work with product managers and designers to turn requirements into technical designs and working code.
• Apply good practice for security, logging, monitoring and infrastructure-as-code, using tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Review code thoroughly, mentor junior and mid-level engineers, and raise technical standards across the team.
• Research and adopt new technologies and patterns that improve development speed and system performance.
• Form and explain a clear view on using AI tools in software development in a way that is effective, secure and ethical.
• Use AI coding tools every day, such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, agentic tools and large language models, and be able to explain their limits, security risks and what they change for engineering work.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional full-stack software development experience.
• Expert Python skills for backend work, including Django.
• Strong working knowledge of Vue.js and TypeScript.
• Deep hands-on experience designing, deploying and maintaining serverless applications, preferably on AWS Lambda, API Gateway and managed services.
• SQL skills, preferably with PostgreSQL.
• Solid grasp of event sourcing and event-driven architecture, including message brokers or streaming services such as SQS, SNS, EventBridge or Kinesis.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing and Infrastructure-as-Code.
• Practical experience with AI coding tools that delivered specific, measurable productivity gains, and a clear understanding of how to manage their risks, including code quality, security and IP.
• Experience with advanced AWS services such as Step Functions, Kinesis or SageMaker.
• Experience working in a regulated or compliance-focused environment.
• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• Be ready to discuss and demonstrate in interviews: specific examples of AI tools you have used in work or personal projects to boost productivity or solve hard problems, including any preferred agentic tool setup.
• Be ready to explain the current technical, ethical and accuracy limits of AI tools in engineering.
• Be ready to explain how AI tools open new opportunities for engineers, such as moving effort from boilerplate code to complex problem-solving and architecture.
• Be ready to describe how your own role has already changed because of AI, such as new workflows, skills or ways of working together, and how you expect it to change in the coming years.
