The role is Technical Lead for the Charging and Mediation team, which sits in the Technology function of the company in Lithuania.
The team builds and runs the backend IT systems that connect directly to the mobile network and turn usage into rated, charged and billed services.
The company has 15,000 colleagues across the Nordics and Baltics.
You will shape the systems behind every call, data session and payment on the network.
Responsibilities
Set the technical direction for online and offline charging, mediation and the payment gateway, covering data, voice, SMS and VoLTE on 2G/3G, 4G/LTE, 5G NSA and 5G SA.
Work with engineers, core network specialists, vendors and product owners to change the architecture, raise reliability and cut complexity.
Own and evolve the architecture of these platforms.
Lead the link between IT and network domains, including charging interfaces such as Diameter Gy, Ro and Rf and 5G CHF with Nchf, plus CDR and EDR flows and network element connections.
Drive the IT side of the 5G SA and service-based architecture roadmap, keeping 2G, 3G and 4G services stable until they are switched off.
Make architecture decisions and plan long-term platform change, including vendor platform upgrades and cloud-native modernization.
Serve as the senior escalation point for the most complex production, performance and revenue-affecting incidents.
Improve reliability, observability, security and revenue assurance of real-time, critical systems.
Act as the technical contact for vendors and partners: assess solutions, review designs and set high technical standards for suppliers.
Help engineers reduce technical debt, simplify systems and build their skills.
Work with product owners and the engineering manager to balance sustainable technology with delivery.
Requirements
Telco IT engineer or architect who enjoys building and evolving large-scale, real-time backend systems.
5+ years building, integrating or operating telco BSS/OSS systems, ideally in charging (OCS/CCS/CHF), mediation, rating or billing.
Solid understanding of mobile network architecture from 2G to 5G SA (CS core, GPRS/EPC, IMS, 5GC) and how it affects IT backend systems.
Hands-on knowledge of 3GPP charging principles and protocols, including Diameter (Gy, Ro, Rf), CAMEL, CDR formats and 5G Nchf over HTTP/2-based SBA interfaces.
Strong grasp of distributed systems, high availability, concurrency, performance and observability in real-time, high-throughput environments.
Experience modernizing large systems incrementally rather than through big rewrites, including vendor-delivered platforms.
Sound technical solution evaluation and pragmatic trade-off decisions.
Experience influencing technical direction across teams, vendors and stakeholders.
Preference for simple, maintainable solutions and a drive to help others grow.
Experience using AI-assisted development and operations tools effectively while keeping high engineering standards.
Fluent English. Lithuanian is an advantage.
Experience with payment gateway or carrier billing solutions, or with VoLTE/VoNR and IMS service charging.
Experience with cloud-native and container platforms (Kubernetes, OpenShift), CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code.
Working knowledge of Linux, SQL, scripting (Python, Bash) and messaging or streaming platforms such as Kafka.
