Description

The project is a private cloud platform for a Dutch managed services provider that serves public-sector customers in Western Europe.

The client offers private and public cloud as a managed service. This platform is their own private cloud, built and run in Go on Kubernetes.

You will build new services and the Kubernetes operators that manage the platform, migrate existing workloads onto it, and maintain it once live. New development happens alongside migration and run-phase work.

Go is new to the team, which has mostly worked in Python, so the Go direction is still forming. Code you write early will set the pattern for later work, and you can help shape the platform's Go codebase rather than inherit older decisions.

You will join a mixed team of 6+ engineers split between Poland and the Netherlands. The team works as one group, not as vendor and client. English is the daily working language for design discussions, code review and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, test and deploy Go back-end services for the private cloud platform.
  • Write and maintain Kubernetes operators and controllers in Go.
  • Test, debug and improve existing infrastructure applications.
  • Help move existing workloads onto the new platform.
  • Build and maintain GitLab CI/CD pipelines for the services you own.
  • Work with architects, functional designers and other specialists on system and application design.
  • Review code, write technical documentation and share knowledge with the team.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of commercial back-end development, including at least 2 years building production services in Go.
  • Working knowledge of Go concurrency (goroutines, channels, context, sync), the standard library, and building REST and gRPC services.
  • Experience building CI/CD pipelines in GitLab and handling the full delivery lifecycle.
  • Experience writing Go tests with the standard testing package and either Testify or Ginkgo.
  • Experience building and running containerised applications on Linux, including debugging services, reading logs and troubleshooting basic host networking.
  • English at B2 or higher, as you will use it daily with Dutch colleagues in design discussions, code review and documentation.
  • Kubernetes operators or controllers written in Go. This is a core part of the role, so it gives you an advantage from your first week.
  • Python, including Pytest. Python is the team's main language so far, and some tooling and tests remain in it.
  • Robot Framework, used for acceptance testing alongside the Go test suites.
  • Helm, Kustomize and GitOps. The platform is deployed declaratively, so these will help you settle in quickly.
  • HashiCorp Vault and Terraform, used for secrets management and infrastructure provisioning on the platform.
  • CKA or CKAD. Not required, but they map directly onto the Kubernetes work.
