Engineering Manager

Description

The company is hiring an experienced Engineering Manager to head one of the platform's main engineering areas and help it grow.

You will oversee several cross-functional teams through their Team Leads and Engineering Managers, covering people leadership, delivery quality, and technical direction on hybrid infrastructure.

Depending on your background, you will own one of three core platform areas: moving client funds from deposit to withdrawal, the client path from sign-up to full verification, or the systems that keep balances accurate and protect client and company assets.

Responsibilities

• Build out and grow several cross-functional teams (backend, frontend, infrastructure, mobile) via Team Leads and Engineering Managers, scaling the area to as many as 40 engineers.
• Take responsibility for delivery, quality, and technical results across your area, including cross-team work and dependencies.
• Work with Product, Trading, and Senior Engineering leaders to define the area's roadmap and turn business needs into engineering work.
• Run engineering processes across teams, such as planning, estimation, CI/CD, code review, testing, and releases.
• Keep systems aligned technically, highly available, and observable on hybrid infrastructure, balancing technical debt against delivery speed.
• Recruit, coach, and develop Team Leads and Engineering Managers, run performance calibration, and make promotion decisions.
• Plan headcount 1 to 2 years ahead, shape team structure, and manage the area's budget.
• Build a culture of ownership, customer focus, and getting results.

Requirements

• At least 7 years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong backend background and ideally hands-on Ruby work.
• At least 3 years as an Engineering Manager, including managing Team Leads or Engineering Managers.
• Proven experience leading an engineering organisation of at least 20 engineers across several teams.
• Proven experience with headcount planning, team structure design, and budget management.
• Background in financial systems, trading platforms, or other high-reliability domains.
• Solid working knowledge of AWS, on-premise and hybrid infrastructure, CI/CD, deployment strategies, and observability tools.
• Upper Intermediate English.
• A plus: experience building teams from scratch and growing an engineering organisation from one team to several.
• A plus: experience with low-latency or high-throughput systems.
• A plus: hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code tools.
