Two of the company's missile defense teams are hiring Experienced and Lead Systems Engineers in Huntsville, AL, to work on the system of systems that defends the homeland.
The roles sit where mission results, architecture, analysis, integration and testing meet.
On the systems engineering and integration team, you will help the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) shape system-level concepts, architectures, requirements and assessments that guide incremental upgrades to the US missile defense system.
On the command, control, battle management and communications team, you will help develop the element that connects sensors and weapons and coordinates operations to provide a layered defense across every phase of flight.
Openings cover three disciplines: system architecture, requirements and interfaces; systems integration, verification and validation; and modeling and simulation.
Responsibilities
Depending on your assignment, your work may span mission assessment, architecture, requirements, model-based systems engineering (MBSE), integration and test, often alongside company staff, industry partners and government stakeholders.
Help set out and refine the MDA and C2BMC system architecture.
Write and maintain requirements and architecture products, including interface definitions, for missile defense capabilities.
Lead or support architecture and requirements trade studies, recommending options that balance mission performance, cost, schedule and technical feasibility.
Run the requirements management process and its tools, covering planning, organizing, implementation and monitoring, along with traceability, change control and quality.
Track program risks, issues and opportunities, and assess technology readiness where it affects architecture or requirements decisions.
Work regularly with MDA, warfighters and industry partners to align requirements, interfaces and priorities.
Plan and carry out integration and checkout: define tasks, set schedules, assign work, track completion and keep the plan on course.
Judge integration and checkout results against checkout requirements so the team knows when it can move to the next stage.
Help define and drive the integration and test strategy, including processes, tools and metrics, so requirements are verified well and consistently.
Run and record integration and test events, capturing results, issues and verification evidence.
Work with integration and test subject matter experts on complex problems involving process, tools, regulations and system specifics.
Find and build improvements to tools and processes, such as automation, reporting and repeatable workflows, that cut friction and raise throughput.
Assess system performance across realistic scenarios and architectures to give MDA and warfighters mission insight.
Build and maintain analysis tools at several fidelity levels, including simulations that predict performance against evolving threats.
Carry out system and performance trade studies, such as mission effectiveness, architecture comparisons and what-if analyses, to inform technical decisions.
Improve modeling approaches so results are credible, repeatable and useful for decisions, covering assumptions, data handling and model verification and validation.
Provide technical leadership and recommendations in assigned focus areas using modeling, simulation and quantitative methods.
Requirements
Bachelor of Science in engineering, engineering technology (including manufacturing technology), computer science, data science, mathematics, physics or chemistry, or a non-US equivalent directly related to the work.
4+ years of related engineering experience.
Prior systems engineering experience in areas such as systems, design, architecture, integration, requirements or test.
Preferred: Level 4, meaning 7+ years of related work experience or an equivalent mix of education and experience.
Preferred: leadership experience, including engineering leadership roles or leading work and driving teams to success.
Preferred: familiarity with missile defense mission context, especially command and control, battle management and communications.
Preferred: experience with requirements analysis and verification, and with requirements and architecture development for complex systems or systems of systems.
Preferred: experience using MBSE or requirements tools such as Cameo or DOORS, and supporting architecture or requirements trade studies.
Preferred: experience running or supporting integration and test, including executing and documenting test events.
Preferred: experience developing or tailoring I&T processes, tools and metrics, and evaluating results against requirements.
Preferred: experience working across several stakeholder groups or teams.
Preferred: scripting or programming for test or tool support in Python, MATLAB, Java or similar.
Preferred: experience with system or performance analysis and trade studies, such as operational or feasibility analysis and MOEs or TPMs.
Preferred: experience building or using modeling and simulation tools to predict performance.
Preferred: familiarity with missile defense or related air, space or ballistic engagement domains.
Preferred: scripting or programming for analysis tools in Python, MATLAB, Java or similar.
Preferred: ability to communicate results clearly to technical and nontechnical stakeholders so they can make decisions.
