Staff Site Reliability Engineer

Description

The team is a group of senior engineers who keep the company's cloud infrastructure reliable, scalable and fast.

You will design and run cloud-native platforms for validating software and releases and for checking production readiness, working with engineering teams spread across the world.

This is a new vacancy.

Responsibilities

• Set the technical direction for reliability and release quality across several teams.
• Build platforms and automation so engineers can ship safely at scale.
• Shape architecture decisions and raise the standard of operational excellence through hands-on work and mentoring.
• Design, build and run cloud-native platforms for software validation, release validation and production readiness.
• Maintain production-like release and test environments.
• Create automated test pipelines, observability and quality gates within CI/CD workflows.
• Cut manual toil through automation and shift-left practices.
• Build reusable frameworks, self-service environments, test data management and mock services.
• Design and improve Kubernetes-based platforms for test infrastructure, release automation and developer self-service.
• Automate checks for failure detection, deployment verification, policy enforcement, security and resilience.
• Solve complex platform, infrastructure and networking problems.
• Lead architecture reviews and design discussions, and drive projects on your own across teams.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews, guidance and knowledge sharing.
• Encourage a culture that values reliability, automation and operational excellence.

Requirements

• Experience using AI in work processes, decisions or problem solving, such as using AI tools, automating workflows, analysing AI-driven insights, or assessing AI's impact on your function or industry.
• 8+ years in SRE, DevOps, platform, software or infrastructure engineering with a Bachelor's degree, or 6 years with a Master's degree, or a PhD with 3 years, or equivalent experience.
• Hands-on Kubernetes work across cluster operations, networking, storage, security, autoscaling and multi-cluster environments.
• Experience building and running highly available cloud-native platforms.
• Experience connecting Kubernetes with CI/CD, GitOps, automated test pipelines and deployment validation.
• Experience with progressive delivery, including canary deployments, feature flags and automated rollback.
• Experience with chaos engineering, resilience testing and disaster recovery.
• Strong software engineering skills in Python, Go, Java or Ruby.
• Solid understanding of observability, SLIs/SLOs, incident management and distributed systems operations.
• Ability to drive projects independently in fast-moving, ambiguous settings, with a strong sense of ownership.
• Preferred: observability and monitoring platforms at scale, including Grafana and VictoriaMetrics.
• Preferred: DevOps and GitOps tools such as GitLab CI/CD, Argo CD or Flux.
• Preferred: test automation frameworks such as Playwright, Selenium, Cypress, REST Assured, PyTest or JUnit/TestNG.
• Preferred: test orchestration, flaky test detection and test data management.
• Preferred: service virtualization, contract testing and synthetic testing.
• Preferred: Infrastructure as Code with Terraform or Ansible.
• Preferred: Kubernetes ecosystem tools such as Helm, Istio/Linkerd, Prometheus and OpenTelemetry.
• Preferred: managed Kubernetes on AWS (EKS), Azure (AKS) or Google Cloud (GKE).
• Preferred: AI-assisted engineering, intelligent testing or operational automation.

Conditions

This role requires Government of Canada Reliability Status screening as a condition of employment. The screening covers 5 years of verifiable background history, including identity verification, education verification, a criminal record check and a credit check.

You must be eligible to obtain and keep Reliability Status, which generally requires Canadian citizenship or Canadian permanent resident status.

Employment depends on completing and maintaining the screening.

The base pay for this location is $109,400 - $191,500. This is a guideline, and total compensation varies by qualifications, skill level, competencies and work location.

Compensation depends on the geographic location of the role and may change with work location.

Work arrangements are flexible, remote or required in office, and are assigned based on the nature of the work and your work location.

To confirm eligibility for a work arrangement, the company may measure the distance between your home and the nearest company office using a third-party service.
