Senior Site Reliability Engineer

Description

This senior role sits in the company's central Observability team within the platform organisation. You will help shape technical direction for reliability and observability across every product.

You will build standard, intelligent observability systems so product teams can adopt automated, agent-first development. You will also design data pipelines and telemetry frameworks, support colleagues across the company, and help systems stay reliable under heavy load while speeding up how teams release software.

You will work alongside engineers focused on reliability, platform performance, and data architecture. The team has a lot of independence, works remotely across Australia and New Zealand, sets shared reliability benchmarks, and supports product squads. Communication is open and transparent, with a focus on solving problems together and experimenting with technology.

Responsibilities

• Create standard data pipelines and telemetry layer designs that support intelligent, agent-driven development.
• Roll out OpenTelemetry standards and vendor-neutral instrumentation across distributed applications.
• Improve platform efficiency and cost, and track performance metrics across cloud systems.
• Build automated alerts and reliability scorecards that speed up incident investigation and system health tracking.

Requirements

• Experience running distributed tracing, metrics, and log aggregation in large cloud environments.
• Hands-on familiarity with OpenTelemetry and vendor-neutral instrumentation techniques.
• Solid grasp of distributed systems design and of diagnosing how platforms behave under high load.
• Keen interest in AI tooling, intelligent operations workflows, and data model automation.
• A proven record of working across engineering teams, sharing knowledge, and raising platform standards.
• A proactive approach, taking ownership of complex reliability problems from design through to delivery.
