Description

The company develops cancer detection tests and is moving from research into commercial operations, so its Site Reliability Engineering team is new and you would be among its founding members.

You will help set the team's culture and build the systems that keep regulated, cloud-based production environments reliable, work that directly affects patient lives.

The role suits an engineer who has run production workloads in the cloud and wants to build an SRE practice from scratch in a regulated setting.

The team values reliability as a product feature, continual learning, automation, simple and clear technical choices, and blameless postmortems with open communication.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build and run observability, reliability and incident management systems across clinical lab systems and regulated commercial workloads.
  • Define service-level indicators, service-level objectives and error budgets together with engineering teams.
  • Write runbooks and operational playbooks, and build the monitoring and automation that keep systems reliable and compliant.
  • Define and implement observability for production systems, covering metrics, traces, dashboards, logs and alerts.
  • Work with product, engineering and lab teams on incident response playbooks and escalation procedures.
  • Take part in the on-call rotation and push for automation and self-healing.
  • Help shape production deployment and change-management processes that meet FDA and compliance requirements.
  • Automate manual operational work.
  • Improve production systems and designs for reliability.
  • Manage team-owned infrastructure and subsystems with Infrastructure as Code.
  • Partner with TPMs, RA/QA and compliance staff to align operations with regulatory rules.
  • Join cross-functional incident reviews and postmortems.
  • Document operational standards and share knowledge so the team stays consistent and new hires can onboard.
  • Plan and run fire drills, tabletop exercises and disaster recovery exercises.
  • Drive reliability work in the systems or services you own, with little supervision.
  • Mentor peers on observability, incident management and operations.
  • Shape the reliability practice and contribute to team strategy.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in computer science or engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years in software engineering, infrastructure, DevOps or SRE roles.
  • Python or Go is preferred.
  • Experience deploying cloud infrastructure through automation, using tools such as Terraform, Pulumi or Bicep/ARM.
  • Hands-on experience operating production workloads in the cloud.
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes on AKS, GKE or EKS.
  • Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills in distributed systems.
  • Experience with observability platforms such as DataDog, Prometheus/Grafana or OpenTelemetry.
  • Ability to define and implement metrics, dashboards and alerting.
  • Ability to work autonomously and own technical outcomes.
  • Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure and networking architecture and automation.
  • Nice to have: experience supporting regulated environments in healthcare, biotech or financial services.
  • Nice to have: familiarity with compliance-driven change management and release processes such as FDA or HIPAA.
  • Nice to have: experience with incident management platforms such as Incident.io, ServiceNow, Opsgenie or PagerDuty.
  • Nice to have: knowledge of CI/CD deployment strategies and change automation.
  • Nice to have: experience with both GCP and Azure.
  • Nice to have: interest in mentoring and in reliability practices at scale.
