Description

The company runs cloud services for its customers, and this site reliability engineering team keeps them reliable, deployable and running around the clock.

The team works closely with product engineering, security and support on reliability, deployment and day-to-day operation. It is growing, and the aim is to push the existing platform further with observability, release automation, chaos engineering and related work.

The role mixes infrastructure, networking, operating systems, automation, development and application administration. It is hands-on and fast-moving, and suits someone with prior experience running cloud SaaS applications who prefers fixing operational problems with automation and code. You should hold a high standard of quality, focus on customers, and be able to dig into code, app servers, databases, load balancers, operating systems and networks.

Responsibilities

  • Deploy, manage and secure the company's production SaaS environments on AWS and Azure.
  • Solve difficult problems with teams spread across regions and departments.
  • Automate routine and repetitive work.
  • Write documentation and training material.
  • Train colleagues.
  • Join on-call rotations that provide 24x7 coverage on a follow-the-sun model, handling incident response, issue triage and problem resolution.

Requirements

  • You must hold US citizenship and be physically based inside the country.
  • A BSc in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • 3+ years of relevant industry experience, or 2+ years if you hold a BSc in Computer Science or an equivalent degree.
  • Strong Python skills plus one of Java, Golang or C.
  • Able to script in Bash or PowerShell.
  • Familiarity with public cloud platforms, with AWS or Azure preferred.
  • Experience troubleshooting Java and.NET applications.
  • Experience diagnosing network and storage infrastructure problems.
  • Experience with core Linux distributions such as Debian, RHEL, SUSE or Slackware.
  • Experience with Windows.
  • Experience with one or more of SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka, MongoDB, Elasticsearch or similar.
  • Able to configure and tune at least one of HA Proxy, Apache, Nginx, IIS or similar.
  • Able to configure monitoring tools such as New Relic, DataDog, Splunk or similar.
  • Familiarity with container orchestration, with AWS EKS or Azure AKS preferred.
  • Experience with deployment pipeline tools such as Ansible, Jenkins and/or GitHub Actions.
  • Skilled at writing and developing Infrastructure as Code.
  • Willingness to adopt new technologies and good practices.
  • Strong written and spoken English for working with colleagues around the world.
  • Nice to have: prior experience as a Site Reliability Engineer or DevOps Engineer.
  • Nice to have: certificates in cloud development and architecture, Kubernetes administration, Linux administration or software engineering, or demonstrated equivalent knowledge.
  • Nice to have: experience with compliance frameworks such as SOC 2 Type 2, ISO-27001, FedRAMP or IRAP, and privacy regulations such as GDPR and PIPEDA.
