Description

The company's Site Reliability Engineering team works closely with Product Engineering, Security and Support.

The team owns reliability, deployment and day-to-day running of the company's cloud services.

The near-term goals are better observability, automated releases and chaos engineering on the existing platform.

The role mixes infrastructure, networking, operating systems, automation, software development and application administration in a hands-on, fast-moving setting.

The best candidates have run cloud SaaS products before, prefer automation and code over manual operations, hold a high bar for quality, and care about customers. They can dig into code, app servers, databases, load balancers, operating systems and networks.

Responsibilities

  • Deploy, operate and secure the company's production SaaS environments in AWS and Azure.
  • Solve hard problems with teams spread across regions and departments.
  • Automate routine, repetitive work.
  • Write documentation and training material, and teach colleagues.
  • Join an on-call rotation providing 24x7 follow-the-sun coverage, handling incident response, issue triage and fixes.

Requirements

  • You must hold US citizenship and be based in the United States.
  • A BSc in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • 3+ years of relevant industry experience, or 2+ years if you hold a BSc in Computer Science or an equivalent degree.
  • Strong Python skills, plus one of Java, Golang or C.
  • Working knowledge of Bash or PowerShell scripting.
  • Familiarity with public cloud, with AWS or Azure preferred.
  • Experience troubleshooting Java and.NET applications.
  • Experience diagnosing network and storage problems.
  • Experience with Debian, RHEL, SUSE or Slackware Linux, and with Windows.
  • Experience with one or more of SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka, MongoDB, Elasticsearch or similar.
  • Ability to configure and tune at least one of HAProxy, Apache, Nginx, IIS or similar.
  • Ability to set up monitoring with New Relic, DataDog, Splunk or similar.
  • Container orchestration experience, with AWS EKS or Azure AKS preferred.
  • Experience with deployment pipelines such as Ansible, Jenkins or GitHub Actions.
  • Ability to write and work with Infrastructure as Code.
  • Eagerness to adopt new technologies and best practices.
  • Clear written and spoken English for working with global colleagues.
  • Nice-to-have: prior experience as a Site Reliability Engineer or DevOps Engineer.
  • Nice-to-have: certificates in cloud development and architecture, Kubernetes administration, Linux administration or software engineering, or proven equivalent knowledge.
  • Nice-to-have: experience with compliance frameworks such as SOC 2 Type 2, ISO-27001, FedRAMP or IRAP, and privacy rules such as GDPR or PIPEDA.
