Description

The company is a high-tech home security business focused on protecting the life people have built, with a mission of keeping every home secure. It is growing and wants people who are smart, talented and humble.

This individual contributor role sits in the Product Management team and gives the product organization a current, rigorous view of the competitive landscape. That covers DIY and professionally installed security providers such as ADT, Ring/Amazon, Vivint, Google Nest, Wyze, Arlo, Eufy, Abode and Cove, plus adjacent smart home entrants.

You will have real room to help build and grow the competitive intelligence practice within Product Management and to shape how the role develops over time.

The role is hybrid. Teams meet in the office on two core days, typically Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, and choose where they work for the rest of the week.

Responsibilities

  • Track competitor hardware launches, app and software releases, feature changes, pricing and subscription tier changes, and monitoring service changes across DIY and pro-install security.
  • Keep a living intelligence repository of product specs, pricing, positioning, feature-parity matrices and SWOT-style profiles that Product, Marketing and Engineering use as the single source of truth.
  • Watch public signals such as app store listings and reviews, teardowns, FCC filings, patent activity, job postings, earnings calls and press for early hints of competitor roadmaps.
  • Run feature-gap and pricing analyses showing where the company leads, lags or matches competitors, and turn them into roadmap recommendations for Product Managers.
  • Work with Product Managers during discovery and planning to bring competitive context into requirements, prioritization and business cases.
  • Carry out periodic deep-dive teardowns of competitor hardware, apps and setup experience, based on first-hand use.
  • Support win/loss and customer research with UX Research and CX to learn why customers choose or leave the company compared with competitors.
  • Write concise competitive briefs and readouts for Product and executive leadership, including material for the Executive Team or Board, reducing large volumes of information to the few implications that matter.
  • Build and maintain lightweight tools such as battlecards, comparison one-pagers and competitive digests that Product, Marketing and Engineering can use on their own.
  • Organize employee testing programs so teams beyond Product can use competitor products firsthand.
  • Present findings to Product, Marketing, Engineering and executive audiences.

Requirements

  • Required: 2, 4 years of experience in competitive intelligence, market research, product management, product analytics, product marketing or a closely related analytical role. Exposure to hardware, IoT or consumer electronics is ideal.
  • Strong analytical and research skills, with comfort working on both quantitative data such as pricing, specs and review scores and qualitative signals such as positioning, messaging and user sentiment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to turn raw research into a short, useful summary that a busy PM will read.
  • Self-directed and detail-oriented, curious about the category, and in the habit of spotting what changed and why.
  • Comfortable working across Product, Marketing and, at times, Sales and CX.
  • Preferred: Experience or real interest in smart home, home security or connected hardware.
  • Preferred: Hands-on comfort with AI and LLM tools for speeding up research and monitoring.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree in a related field such as Business, Marketing or Economics, or equivalent practical experience.

Conditions

Hybrid schedule: two core in-office days, typically Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, with flexible location for the rest of the week.

Base pay target: $121,400 to $161,800 per year, set on market-based benchmarks, reviewed annually and tailored to skills, experience, qualifications, work location and other business factors.

The company is committed to fair and equitable pay and to pay transparency.

The company is an equal opportunity employer.

Benefits

  • Total rewards package that supports wellness and provides financial security for employees and their families, with details available on the company's total rewards page.
  • Beyond base pay, possible annual bonus participation, equity and other compensation, plus medical, retirement and lifestyle benefits.
  • A free the company home security system with professional monitoring for your home.
  • Employee Resource Groups for networking, mentoring, development and advocacy.
  • A values-driven, inclusive culture where you can build, grow and thrive.
