Position Summary:

Help shape how physicians and care teams experience athenahealth’s products every day. The Product Manager will lead the Clinicals Front End and Application Performance product areas, building a modern front-end architecture and improving the speed and responsiveness of the current user experience. This role is based in Boston, MA, and operates in a hybrid work environment. This role reports to the Product Management Director within athenaClinicals.

The Clinical Foundations team builds shared capabilities that support athenahealth's electronic health record products. The team is passionate about application usability and performance, and its goal is a faster, more reliable athenaOne for every physician and care team. Team members partner with Product, Engineering, UX, Cloud Engineering and Operations, and Client Technology teams to understand client needs and deliver excellent user experiences.

Essential Job Responsibilities

Define the product vision, business cases, and roadmap.

Serve as Product Owner for assigned scrum teams by defining epics and user stories, prioritizing the backlog, and making informed trade-offs among customer value, scope, timing, and technical constraints.

Collaborate with your team to define the end-to-end product development lifecycle, including problem definition, requirements, user experience, objectives and key results, delivery, and measurement of customer and business outcomes.

Establish and monitor performance measures that provide visibility into product outcomes, risks, and opportunities for improvement.

Evaluate market conditions, customer needs, product dependencies, and business value to guide prioritization and product investment decisions.

Support other product and engineering teams delivering new product features with shared front-end software, design libraries, and observability tools.

Become a subject matter expert on physician and care team user experience and web application development best practices.

Lead AI-native product development by using AI across the software development lifecycle, from discovery and design through development, testing, and post-release iteration.

Scale AI best practices by sharing learnings, frameworks, and reusable patterns to elevate AI adoption across the broader R&D organization.

Expected Education & Experience

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or Business, or equivalent practical experience.

5–10 years of experience in product management, technical product management, business analysis, or software delivery, working in an agile environment.

Experience in healthcare or healthcare technology.

Experience with web application technologies, such as React and GraphQL, and observability tools, such as Chrome DevTools and Datadog.

Experience working with Agile or Scrum product development teams.

Ability to analyze complex problems, use qualitative and quantitative evidence, and develop scalable product solutions.

Clear written and verbal communication skills for working with customers, senior leaders, and cross-functional partners.

Experience using AI tools (e.g., Claude, Copilot, ChatGPT, Figma Make) to accelerate product development work, such as draft requirements, synthesize user feedback, create specifications or prototypes, or analyze data with appropriate human review.

Ability to travel up to 10-15% annually for client site visits, conferences, and trainings.

Expected Compensation

$121,000 - $207,000

The base salary range shown reflects the full range for this role from minimum to maximum. At athenahealth, base pay depends on multiple factors, including job-related experience, relevant knowledge and skills, how your qualifications compare to others in similar roles, and geographical market rates. Base pay is only one part of our competitive Total Rewards package - depending on role eligibility, we offer both short and long-term incentives by way of an annual discretionary bonus plan, variable compensation plan, and equity plans.
