Description

The company is a high-tech home security business that is growing, and it is hiring to shake up the home security market. Its culture is no-ego and collaborative, built around innovation and giving people room to grow.

You will work with Design Leads to learn what customers struggle with, then turn those needs into new concepts and carry physical products from early ideation through to mass production. The role suits a creative, detail-oriented problem solver who is strong at early concepting, fast hands-on prototyping, and keeping design intent intact through execution.

Responsibilities

  • Turn user needs and insights into new product concepts, forms and experiences.
  • Make quick, rough physical prototypes and foam models to test ideas, check ergonomics and gather user feedback.
  • Work with Product Management, Engineering, User Research and UX to steer industrial design from early exploration through to execution.
  • Sketch with others to explore form, color, material and finish (CMF) and user interaction, and explain solutions clearly across teams.
  • Build detailed CAD models and high-quality 3D renderings that show design intent and function.
  • Produce full design documents, including detailed drawings, CMF specifications and production artwork, and flag ongoing DFM issues in part review documents.
  • Work with Engineering and outside manufacturing partners to adapt, refine and protect design integrity through production.
  • Help build and update the company's Design Language System (DLS) so hardware decisions fit across the product line.

Requirements

  • A strong digital portfolio that shows your full design process, including early concepts, user-centered problem solving, form development and rough prototyping.
  • Good storytelling skills and a collaborative, growth-minded approach.
  • A sharp eye for detail and a real feel for aesthetics.
  • Strong ideation, form-giving, CAD and digital prototyping skills.
  • Hand and digital sketching skills to quickly generate, iterate on and communicate ideas about looks and function.
  • Enjoyment of fast physical prototyping in paper, foam and 3D printing to test concepts with users.
  • High proficiency in 3D CAD modeling for precise surface geometry, using KeyShot and V-Ray.
  • Expertise in 3D rendering and visualization for presentation-quality visuals, using KeyShot and V-Ray.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials and CMF specification documentation.
  • Ability to work constructively with mechanical and electrical engineers and manufacturing partners, balancing trade-offs while keeping design intent.
  • Experience working within or contributing to a hardware Design Language System.
  • 3-6 years of professional hardware design experience.
  • A bachelor's degree in Industrial Design or equivalent.
  • A track record of designing high-quality consumer products that combine physical and digital components.
  • You share the company's values: Customer Obsessed (deep empathy and long-term customer relationships), Aim High (raising the bar for yourself and others), No Ego (a no-job-too-small attitude and a humble, inclusive style), One Team (highly collaborative), Lift As We Climb (developing others) and Lean & Nimble (agile, efficient experimentation in ambiguous settings).
