Description

The company's fire protection teams design sprinkler systems that meet code and can be installed practically for customers.

This role centres on producing detailed CAD drawings that position sprinklers and piping. It mixes drafting, hydraulic calculations, on-site checks, and coordination with district contracting staff and installers.

Responsibilities

  • Produce detailed CAD drawings showing where sprinklers go.
  • Read construction documents, site conditions, and architectural details to design accurately.
  • Apply NFPA standards to layouts based on building use, construction type, hazard class, and architectural features.
  • Lay out systems in AutoCAD-based design software.
  • Route sprinkler piping around other building elements.
  • Run hydraulic calculations to confirm performance and guide layout choices.
  • Check completed designs in the field for accuracy before installation.
  • Work with district contracting teams on customer contracts, design timing, and delivery needs for installers.
  • Arrange delivery of materials to the site so installation can start on the best date.
  • Mentor others on accurate sprinkler design using your experience and product knowledge.
  • Help sales with design estimates when needed.
  • Apply NFPA rules carefully and consistently so each design fits the building, hazard class, and project needs.
  • Keep in regular contact with contracting staff, field crews, and sales so designs match what gets installed.
  • Confirm accuracy on site and fix design problems early to cut rework.
  • Share what you know, solve problems with practical judgment, and help projects finish well.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 to 5 years of fire sprinkler design experience.
  • Working experience with AutoCAD, HydraCAD, sprinkler design software, or similar sprinkler design software.
  • Ability to solve basic math problems, including geometry and algebra.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Office, sprinkler design software, and a hydraulic calculation program.
  • Ability to interpret and apply NFPA standards for automatic sprinkler system layout.
  • NICET Level III in Water-Based Systems Layout.

Conditions

Hourly pay range is $36.58 to $54.85. The final rate depends on education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, internal equity, and market data.

The company may pay above the stated range for candidates whose background goes well beyond the typical profile.
