Sr. Platform Software Engineer (Linux)

The role speeds up the software development lifecycle and product operating system work, with a focus on security and compliance in product development.

You will connect complex medical software work with stable, secure product platforms to improve efficiency and reliability across engineering operations.

The team is looking for extensive experience building and maintaining software on Linux systems, deep knowledge of Yocto Project and embedded Linux, and a solid grasp of Linux architecture, device integration, and troubleshooting at the application and platform levels.

Responsibilities

• Own the platform code and the build systems behind it.
• Build and support Yocto-based Linux distributions for a range of hardware targets.
• Set up CI/CD pipelines with built-in security and functional automation.
• Support secure networking, secure boot, and OS update mechanisms.
• Keep containerized applications running on the platform using Docker.
• Work with product teams to decide what the platform should offer.
• Write and maintain the platform documentation needed for regulatory approval.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree with at least 4 years of relevant experience, a master's degree with at least 2 years, or a PhD with 0 years of relevant experience.
• Hands-on experience configuring and customizing Linux.
• Experience creating Yocto-based Linux distributions.
• Hands-on knowledge of security principles and practices, including secure boot and software security hardening.
• Strong with containerization, especially Docker, and practical experience integrating and tuning NVIDIA drivers and related GPU software stacks on Linux and Yocto-based systems.
• For bachelor's degrees earned outside the United States, the degree must satisfy 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A).
• Preferred: proficiency in Python, C++, Bash, or similar languages.
• Preferred, and described as essential: experience with CI/CD, build automation, package management, and collaborative development workflows, plus the ability to work in complex, multidisciplinary engineering environments.
• Preferred: understanding of network protocols and services.
• Preferred: familiarity with compliance standards and security frameworks for medical device software, such as HIPAA and FDA regulations.
• Preferred: strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to challenges.
• Preferred: strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Preferred: serve as the subject matter expert on operating system platform best practices, guiding junior team members and other internal stakeholders.

Conditions

You must be onsite at least 4 days a week.

Salary range for U.S. locations, excluding Puerto Rico and certain California locations: $124,800.00 to $187,200.00 USD.

Base pay depends on factors such as experience, certification or education, market conditions, and location, and complies with federal and local rules. Compensation information applies only to U.S. hires; other locations follow local market terms.
