Description

The company is an independent game studio based in London, Ontario, Canada, founded in 1993.

The team is building an open-world action-fantasy MMORPG that is still in development.

As senior game designer, you will define and deliver the core player experience: UI, main character movement and combat, enemy movement and AI, mini-games, and all co-op features.

You need strong written, visual, and verbal communication, and you must carry your ideas from first concept through to final polish.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coach the design team in delivering the game's creative vision and product goals.
  • Work with animation, programming, and level design to make the player experience feel polished.
  • Partner with the tools team to build gameplay workflows that let the team iterate and test quickly and flexibly.
  • Understand the product goals and creative vision, explain them clearly, and advocate for them across disciplines.
  • Use data, player feedback, and internal playtests to refine your designs.
  • Write up and explain design concepts so every development team stays aligned.
  • Keep up with trends and new ideas in enemy and boss design and bring them to the team.
  • Take part in playtests, giving and accepting useful feedback to keep improving combat encounters.
  • Take on other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • You have 5+ years of experience as a designer in the video game industry.
  • You have a track record of designing and implementing features, ideally in live service or multiplayer games.
  • You must have experience working on a 1st-person or 3rd-person game.
  • You understand player feedback loops, hit detection, and animation timing well enough to build responsive, satisfying combat.
  • You have experience with game engines and tools for designing games.
  • You can analyze gameplay data and user feedback.
  • You communicate well and work effectively with teams from other disciplines.
  • You are detail-oriented and can manage several tasks at once in a fast-moving development environment.
  • You take on other senior-level duties as assigned.
