Description

The company is hiring a senior data operations and services programmer for an existing opening. The role centres on a large set of self-hosted databases that you will learn quickly, improve where needed, and then lead projects and people around.

You will help shape a data platform that needs to be more future-proof and easier to scale, in a collaborative setting that keeps changing.

The ideal person has deep hands-on experience with several kinds of databases, is solutions-minded, and cares about data integrity and getting teams to deliver.

Responsibilities

  • Keep existing databases running well: apply version updates, tune performance, plan hardware upgrades, and monitor systems.
  • Build and maintain reliable pipelines that ingest and process data.
  • Run self-hosted database systems with a focus on speed for large analytical workloads and efficient warehousing.
  • Bring together data from multiple sources while keeping quality and consistency high.
  • Make sure data security, privacy, and GDPR requirements, along with government policies and processes, are met.
  • Work with data scientists, analysts, and other teams to pin down what data they need and build scalable answers.
  • Review database architecture and propose changes that fit business goals and future growth.
  • Adjust to changing team needs and organisational limits as data strategy evolves.
  • Lead projects, set and manage timelines, and coordinate across functions.
  • Take on other duties as needed.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in industry.
  • Experience working in large object-oriented codebases, including C++.
  • Experience with database systems such as PostgreSQL and MongoDB, plus other relational and NoSQL options.
  • Experience installing, running, and tuning self-hosted databases.
  • Strong SQL skills and comfort in Linux or Unix environments.
  • Hands-on use of ETL orchestration tools such as Dagster or Airflow.
  • Deep understanding of data warehousing concepts and relational data modelling.
  • Experience running projects and teams: setting timelines, tracking progress, and delivering results.
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor people, with an emphasis on teamwork and sharing knowledge.
  • Optional: experience with payment providers.
  • Optional: experience with consoles.
  • Optional: experience in a live service game environment.
