Linux Systems Administrator / Engineer

Description

The company is an independent video game studio founded in 1993 by James Schmalz and headquartered in London, Ontario. It co-created the Unreal franchise and is known for a free-to-play action game with 75 million registered players on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch and iOS. A new open-world action-fantasy MMORPG is currently in development.

You will work onsite at the London, Ontario studio alongside the existing Systems Analysts and Administrators, sharing ownership of the enterprise Linux environment and helping it grow. The role focuses on high availability, strong performance and reliable out-of-hours coverage for demanding operations.

Responsibilities

• Administer corporate and game Linux servers, including deploying, tuning, troubleshooting and maintaining on-premise and cloud infrastructure.
• Share work on Proxmox VE hypervisors and Ceph distributed storage clusters, covering their upkeep and expansion.
• Take part in backup checks, target storage management and restore tests across the whole site using Veeam Backup & Replication.
• Keep monitoring stacks running and expanding, watch system metrics, catch performance bottlenecks early and respond to alerts with the team.
• Plan, schedule and carry out OS upgrades and hardware lifecycle replacements while keeping studio and game downtime to a minimum.
• Act as the escalation point for complex technical problems, connect systems analysis and infrastructure engineering work, and keep team SOPs current.

Requirements

• 5+ years of Linux system administration in a demanding production or studio setting.
• Demonstrated experience running enterprise Linux, Docker, Proxmox VE, Ceph and Veeam backup systems.
• Familiarity with Perforce server administration on Linux, PRTG or CheckMK monitoring, shell or Python scripting, and core networking protocols.
• A team player who is comfortable co-owning infrastructure projects and sharing maintenance duties with colleagues.
• Out-of-hours on-call duty as required.
• You must be legally eligible to work in Canada at the time of application.
