Server Side Developer

Description

The company runs its own custom-built platform for online quoting, binding and formal document issuance. It also offers analytics that support underwriting, portfolio analysis and product performance.

The team works on keeping the platform running and on projects. Current and possible projects include moving products over from another platform, modernising the platform and adding enhancements to the legacy system.

The role is for a Backend Developer. The company rewards self-starters and people who put customers first.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain server-side applications and services that are efficient and can scale.
• Write clean, well-documented code that follows current best practices and coding standards.
• Work with the frontend team to connect frontend components to server-side logic.
• Work with the database administrator to make data storage and retrieval run well.
• Tune server applications for speed, performance and scalability.
• Find and fix server faults quickly.
• Put security and data protection measures in place.

Requirements

• Substantial experience as a.NET Backend Developer or in a similar role.
• Strong skills in.NET (C#) and SQL, with hands-on experience in ASP.NET,.NET Framework 4.8 and SQL stored procedures.
• Useful if you have worked on modernisation projects using.NET 10, EF Core, Testcontainers or Minimal Endpoints.
• Experience with backend frameworks and libraries, including ORM tools and event messaging.
• Familiarity with relational and NoSQL database systems.
• Understanding of RESTful APIs and other web service technologies.
• Understanding of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with testing frameworks and test-driven development, covering unit, functional and non-functional testing.
• Awareness of security and the ability to apply security best practices.
• Skill in performance optimisation and profiling.
• Experience with Azure services such as App Services, Azure Functions, Storage Accounts, Service Bus, Managed Identities and Key Vault.
• Knowledge of version control systems such as Git.
• Familiarity with clean architecture, event messaging and Domain-Driven Design is beneficial.
• Knowledge of containerisation technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes is advantageous.
• You can work independently and as part of a team, take initiative, solve problems, make decisions and turn ideas into code.
• Good communication skills, attention to detail and strong motivation.
• Familiarity with the Software Development Life Cycle.
• Insurance experience is advantageous but not mandatory.
• Ability to read Delphi code and use of RAD Studio is advantageous.
