Backend Software Engineer

You would join a team building software for a UK banking group.

Responsibilities

• Design and build secure, fast, easy-to-maintain and easy-to-run Golang microservices that support new financial products.
• Work with product, engineering and business colleagues to turn customer needs into working solutions.
• Take part in system design and architecture decisions.
• Promote good engineering practice and help improve how the team builds software.
• Help create a connected platform, including data-driven financial insights and integrations with well-known apps and services.
• Help deliver scalable, resilient systems that give people more control over their finances.

Requirements

• Commercial experience building backend applications in Golang.
• Experience designing and running microservices architectures.
• Experience deploying and operating containerised applications, ideally on Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases.
• Experience working in agile development environments.
• Ability to find and fix problems across the stack, from network and server layers to the database.
• Experience building concurrent, distributed systems at scale.
• Experience working with DevOps or SRE teams to support production environments.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• A drive to keep learning, improve continuously and ship high-quality software.
• It would be great if you also had any of the following:
• Experience with Kafka, RabbitMQ or other messaging technologies.
• Experience with event-driven architectures.
• Experience with real-time, low-latency, transaction-based systems.
• Knowledge of AWS, Docker and CI/CD practices.
• Experience with PostgreSQL, MongoDB or BigQuery.
• Exposure to data platforms, ETL processes or machine learning-enabled products.
• Experience mentoring, coaching or supporting the development of other engineers.
• Experience in fintech, payments or a fast-paced startup.

Conditions

Salary of £76,760 to £115,140.

Full time, 35 hours a week.

Flexible working options include hybrid working and job share.

Hybrid pattern of at least two days a week, or about 40% of your time, at one of the office sites.
