Description

The company is hiring an Engineering Lead for its Account Management team. The team builds the Current Account and Everyday banking products, which cover how customers hold, organise and move money day to day. That includes the main account, savings sub-balances, the home screen, and the flows for moving, converting and adding funds. It also owns the ledger and money-movement systems that other teams build on.

The role covers engineering, product and people equally. You will guide the team, set the technical direction for its systems, and work with your Product Manager and Design lead to ship features customers depend on. You will stay close enough to the code to make sound architecture decisions and to unblock engineers when needed.

The team works with Account Sharing on joint accounts, Send on money movement in and out, and the company Platform on products built on top of accounts.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the team's engineers, take responsibility for what they ship and how they are doing, and develop a clear plan for each person's growth.
  • Keep coding. Review designs and pull requests, and drive full features across backend, web and mobile, coordinating delivery between all three.
  • Own the team's technical roadmap. Decide how systems evolve, manage reliability and technical debt risk, and make the key architecture decisions.
  • Work with your PM and Design to decide what is worth building and why, and give direct, well-reasoned feedback.
  • Work across boundaries with adjacent teams, including Account Sharing, Send and the company Platform.

Requirements

  • You do not need to meet every item below. If you meet most of them and want to grow into the rest, the company wants to hear from you.
  • Strong backend background, close enough to the code to guide senior engineers through difficult problems.
  • Deep knowledge of distributed systems, event-driven architectures and microservices, and confidence making high-impact architecture decisions.
  • A record of owning the reliability, scalability and correctness of critical systems at scale.
  • Working knowledge of a JVM codebase, or the confidence to get up to speed quickly. The stack is Java/Kotlin and Spring Boot.
  • Experience leading engineers and being accountable for what they deliver.
  • You lead by trust, giving people context and direction and letting them own their work.
  • You explain technical arguments clearly, both to engineers and to non-technical colleagues.
  • A product engineer's mindset. You judge your work by its impact on customers and the business.
  • You move quickly and stay comfortable with ambiguity, without lowering quality.
  • You use AI tools to work faster and follow where the technology is going.
  • Experience in fintech, payments or banking.

Conditions

The role is based in London on a hybrid basis, with the location tag LI-Hybrid.

Pay is £105K to £135K GBP plus RSUs.

The company is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes diverse, international teams.

Benefits

  • The company offers RSUs as part of the package, alongside the salary range listed above.
