Description

The company is hiring a senior engineering leader to take charge of a newly formed Risk API team inside the Servicing Platform squad.

The team builds the real-time risk assessment platform that evaluates transactions and user behaviour.

The role combines setting technical direction for the platform with growing the team that runs it.

It sits between Product teams and Financial Crime teams, so the work involves clear API contracts and strong data governance.

The team will set engineering standards that other risk groups in the Risk Assessment Group will follow.

The company is a global technology company that moves and manages money across borders, and this role supports its fraud and financial crime defences.

Responsibilities

  • Own the design, delivery and operational health of the high-throughput Risk API as the technical authority.
  • Lead the design and build of the core Risk API, including the API contracts and data schemas used between Product features and Financial Crime systems.
  • Set up the framework for immutably logging every risk evaluation, and oversee high-quality data streams that support debugging and external regulatory reporting.
  • Enforce data quality and data lineage standards across the platform, and build services that can scale across several risk domains.
  • Hire, mentor and manage the current engineers (IC2 to IC4), and lead the fast recruitment of new engineers.
  • Define roles, processes, engineering standards and a performance-focused culture for the team.
  • Act as the main technical partner to Product, Financial Crime and other engineering leads, and set the architectural direction while balancing speed with security.
  • Keep the platform highly available and low latency at large scale, and manage its SLAs and SLOs.

Requirements

  • Show that you can define and own an architectural roadmap and delivery plan for a mission-critical platform, working largely on your own and turning unclear goals into concrete plans.
  • Have a track record of hiring and building operating models, engineering standards and performance practices for a new team that must grow quickly to at least 5 engineers.
  • Be able to make final technical decisions, resolve conflicts quickly and get agreement between Product, Financial Crime and other engineering teams.
  • Bring prior experience building and running scalable product or service platforms, and explain how you would apply it to company-wide integration and governance problems in risk.
  • Strong communication of your thinking is valued more than formal qualifications.

Conditions

Starting salary is £135,000 to £175,000, plus RSUs worth $86,000 in the first year and $43,000 annually.

The company values diverse, inclusive teams and welcomes applicants from under-represented groups, regardless of background.

Benefits

  • Access to the company's standard benefits package.
  • Restricted stock units (RSUs) as described in the pay section.
  • Access to the company's engineering career map and public write-ups on its tech stack and infrastructure.
