Description

The company is modernising insurance technology through agile, cross-functional teamwork.

You will be the Scrum Master for two software delivery squads, helping each one deliver valuable, high-quality work while growing its focus, collaboration, openness and ability to improve.

You will work day to day with Product Managers, Tech Leads, engineers and stakeholders, using servant leadership to help each squad become more effective and self-managing.

Your main concerns will be team effectiveness and applying agile ways of working consistently, while tailoring your approach to each team's needs and maturity and encouraging shared learning across both.

Responsibilities

  • Give dedicated Scrum Master support to two cross-functional software delivery squads, balancing their priorities and staying engaged with both.
  • Plan and run sprint planning, daily Scrum, refinement, reviews and retrospectives, making sure each one has a clear purpose and produces results.
  • Coach squad members, Product Managers and stakeholders in Scrum, agile and lean principles, helping teams take ownership and manage themselves.
  • Spot obstacles early, coordinate their removal and escalate those that need wider support or a decision.
  • Use suitable delivery measures and team insight to find bottlenecks, support realistic planning and drive improvements based on evidence.
  • Make delivery risks, issues and cross-squad dependencies visible so they are acted on promptly and have clear owners.
  • Build strong working relationships across Product, Engineering, Architecture, QA, Operations and external partners.
  • Support clear, open updates on progress, priorities, risks and changes, without adding unnecessary admin for the squads.
  • Create an environment where people feel safe to reflect and give feedback, agree practical improvement actions and make sure they are carried through.
  • Help squads keep quality high, maintain a sustainable pace and get ready for production releases, and support coordination when delivery issues or incidents arise.
  • Contribute to consistent agile ways of working across Digital Delivery, recognising that each squad may need a different approach.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Scrum Master or agile delivery professional supporting software engineering teams.
  • Experience supporting more than one squad or workstream at once.
  • Solid practical knowledge of Scrum, with a good understanding of Kanban, lean delivery and the software development lifecycle.
  • Excellent facilitation, coaching and servant leadership skills.
  • Ability to build trust, challenge constructively and influence people without relying on authority.
  • Experience finding and resolving impediments, risks and dependencies in complex delivery environments.
  • Confidence using delivery data and team feedback to drive improvement, without turning metrics into measures of individual performance.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, including experience working with Product Owners and Tech Leads.
  • Beneficial: experience working with distributed teams and external technology partners.
  • Desirable: a recognised Scrum or agile qualification, backed by a commitment to continuous learning.

Conditions

Package: negotiable basic salary plus benefits.

Fixed-term contract of 1 year.

Equal opportunity employer: the company values diversity in its team and welcomes diverse applicants.

Benefits

  • A negotiable basic salary and the usual benefits, including holiday and a company pension.
  • Flexible working.
  • Funding available for relevant professional qualifications.
  • A collaborative, open and honest environment focused on delivering the best outcomes for clients and colleagues.
  • An environment built around supporting and developing its people.
