Description

The company is hiring a Senior Systems Applications Engineer to work on intelligent edge computing with its i.MX application processors and next-generation memory, including LPDDR4/4X, LPDDR5/5x, DDR5 and the upcoming LPDDR6.

You will sit in the company's global Systems Engineering group and work with the Global DDR Core Team. Together with customers, memory suppliers, silicon architects and software teams, you will resolve complex system problems and move designs from concept to production.

The role also lets you shape future processor and memory designs and build customer products using recent work in high-performance embedded computing, AI-enabled edge processing and memory subsystems.

The Microprocessor Systems Engineering team is based in Austin, Texas. It acts as the technical link between customers and the company's architecture, silicon design, software, validation and product management groups. The team covers the full i.MX portfolio, supports major product launches and helps set direction for future embedded platforms.

You will join a team of experienced processor, memory and systems specialists who handle hard customer issues, bring new technologies in and help define future SoC and memory roadmaps.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the go-to technical expert on i.MX processors, DDR memory and system architecture.
  • Lead key customers through the steps from design-in to production, including board bring-up and hard system debugging.
  • Help products reach customers in industrial, automotive, IoT, AI, networking and consumer markets.
  • Track current and upcoming memory technologies, including LPDDR4/4X, LPDDR5/5x, DDR5 and LPDDR6.
  • Engage suppliers of memory chips and partners across the ecosystem to judge where future memory designs are heading and what platforms will need.
  • Feed requirements into processor and memory subsystem roadmaps by working directly with architects and product teams.
  • Find and fix performance, reliability, power, boot, interoperability and memory problems across hardware and software.
  • Examine DDR controller, PHY and high-speed interface behaviour to improve speed and robustness.
  • Support silicon bring-up, characterization and root-cause work on complex customer and NPI issues.
  • Run architecture, schematic and design reviews for strategic customers.
  • Write reference designs, design guidelines, application notes and technical training material.
  • Advise customers who are taking next-generation products to market.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science or a related field.
  • 5+ years working with embedded SoCs or application processors.
  • Solid knowledge of DDR technologies, including LPDDR4X, LPDDR5/5x and DDR5, plus memory controllers and PHY designs.
  • Hands-on experience with DDR bring-up, training, margin analysis, validation and debug.
  • Experience reviewing high-speed schematics and PCB layouts.
  • Good grasp of how hardware and software interact in embedded systems.
  • Background in Linux, U-Boot, driver work and low-level firmware, with strong C programming.
  • Hands-on use of scopes, logic analyzers, JTAG probes and protocol analyzers.
  • Clear customer-facing communication and strong technical problem solving.
  • Preferred: experience supporting MPU or application processor customers.
  • Preferred: experience with LPDDR6, DDR5, advanced memory architectures or memory subsystem design.
  • Preferred: past direct work with memory suppliers and partners across the ecosystem.
  • Preferred: familiarity with PCIe, UFS, eMMC, Ethernet, USB, MIPI and other high-speed interfaces.
  • Preferred: knowledge of signal integrity, power integrity and system performance optimization.
  • Preferred: experience influencing SoC architecture, product definition or platform strategy.
  • Preferred: understanding of AI/ML, multimedia, graphics, industrial, automotive, networking or edge use cases.

Conditions

Based in Austin, Texas, with regular collaboration across the company's global engineering teams.

The company is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer and provides reasonable accommodations for qualified disabled individuals.

Benefits

  • Work on i.MX processors used in next-generation edge devices.
  • Help bring emerging technologies such as LPDDR6, AI-enabled edge computing and advanced memory architectures into use.
  • Collaborate with recognised experts across the company's processor and memory groups.
  • Work directly with some of the most innovative technology companies in the industry.
  • See your work make a visible difference on products from concept through customer deployment.
