Description

The Platform Access Controls team sits within the Platform Security Core Organization. It builds the company's core authorization frameworks, including ACLs, Security Policies, Security Attributes and Security Filters, and checks identity and access on every transaction so the platform stays secure by default.

The team is made up of self-directed engineers who like hard security problems and building scalable controls. They work across distributed teams, collaborate closely, and are given autonomy and support to grow.

This Senior Staff role is a technical leader in the group. You will shape the architecture of the access control layer as it extends to securing AI agent access across the product stack, and raise engineering standards across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Define the technical vision and architecture for the authorization platform, balancing long-term scalability against delivery goals while keeping it secure by default.
  • Build core authorization frameworks used throughout the product, keeping them high quality, reliable, secure and fast.
  • Take features from design through delivery, turning business requirements into well-architected solutions that span teams.
  • Lead design and code reviews, promoting access control best practices, performance, maintainability and testability across teams.
  • Build software that is simple for customers and applications to extend and customize for their own needs.
  • Set test strategies covering functional, regression, integration and performance testing.
  • Investigate the hardest production issues across the security stack, find root causes and plan mitigations.
  • Mentor engineers at every level and raise the technical bar across the organization.

Requirements

  • Learn new technologies quickly.
  • Have domain experience with authorization technologies such as RBAC, ABAC and policy engines, or closely related areas.
  • Have delivered complex cross-team projects on time and at high quality.
  • Have troubleshot difficult production problems such as memory leaks, concurrency and caching issues, network problems and intermittent failures across the stack.
  • Have led technical direction across several teams without relying on formal authority.
  • Communicate clearly in writing and speech, including writing design docs or RFCs and presenting technical strategy to senior engineering leaders.
  • Have 12+ years of software development experience with a Bachelor's degree; 8+ years with a Master's degree; 5+ years with a PhD; or equivalent work experience.
  • Know data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, design patterns and performance optimization at scale.
  • Have expert knowledge of object-oriented and modular software practices, with a focus on Java and Golang.
  • Have experience with automated testing frameworks such as JUnit, Selenium and TestNG, and with running tests in CI/CD pipelines.
  • Understand software quality deeply, including reliability, observability and production readiness.
  • Have used AI in engineering work or critically assessed how it changes building software and infrastructure, for example through AI coding and operational tools or workflow automation.
  • Have prior experience with the company's platform.
  • Have prior experience building authorization frameworks.
  • Have experience with Kubernetes-based services deployed in regulated environments with compliance and governance requirements.
