Senior Staff Platform Engineer - Kubernetes - Federal

Description

This is a senior staff software engineering role on the Data Platform team, focused on features and services in the company's cloud-native platform.

The position is hybrid: you work from a company office 2 days per week. Offices are in San Francisco, CA; Pleasanton, CA; Santa Clara, CA; San Diego, CA; and Kirkland, WA.

The role includes support for the company's US regulated markets.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and run components and services on the cloud-native platform, owning features from early design through to production.
• Lead well-defined projects within your team, turning requirements and rough ideas into sound technical designs and then delivering them.
• Work with senior, staff and principal engineers to keep your work aligned with platform architecture and standards.
• Make what you build reliable, scalable and easy to operate by writing tests and instrumentation, improving runbooks and taking part in on-call.
• Spend most of your time coding operators, controllers, automation and platform services that other teams depend on.
• Onboard and mentor junior engineers through code review, design feedback and working in pairs.

Requirements

• Have experience using AI in engineering work, such as AI-assisted coding and operations tools, workflow automation, or rethinking how software and infrastructure get built with AI.
• Have 12+ years of software development experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 8+ years with a Master's; or 5+ years with a PhD; or equivalent work experience.
• Have 5+ years of hands-on experience building, deploying and running workloads on Kubernetes.
• Have working experience with at least one major hyperscaler (AWS, Azure or GCP), including its core compute, networking and IAM primitives.
• Have a track record of delivering complex features or services as a key contributor.
• Have solid working knowledge of containers, CI/CD, GitOps-based delivery and infrastructure-as-code.
• Have strong programming skills in Go, or another systems language and a willingness to work mainly in Go.
• Helps if you have: experience building Kubernetes controllers or working with the operator pattern.
• Helps if you have: familiarity with container networking (CNI) or service mesh.
• Helps if you have: experience with workload identity, mTLS or secrets management.
• Helps if you have: experience with observability, including metrics, tracing and dashboards.

Conditions

Base pay for this location is $171,900 - $300,800, plus equity when applicable, variable or incentive compensation, and benefits.

Sales positions generally come with a competitive On Target Earnings (OTE) incentive structure.

The base pay shown is a guideline; individual total compensation varies with qualifications, skill level, competencies and work location.

Compensation depends on the geographic location of the role and may change with it.

Work personas (flexible, remote or required in office) are assigned based on the nature of the work and the assigned location. The company may use a third-party service to measure the distance between your home and the nearest office.
