The company launched in 2000 and works on wireless communications, building algorithms, waveforms and systems from small radio products to fully integrated solutions.
The Engineering Team is hiring a Product Systems Engineer for the Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) team, which develops products for the UAS market.
The role covers the full systems engineering cycle for tactical radio products, from defining requirements through design, integration, debugging, verification and validation, and post-release support.
You will build a working knowledge of the hardware and software in the embedded architecture and use it to guide design choices and diagnose faults. The job is hands-on both for operating systems as a user (configuring, connecting, running) and as a developer (instrumenting, characterising, debugging, improving).
Team cohesion and morale are shared responsibilities, as are self-improvement and developing others. The team's core values are delivering excellence, pushing boundaries and empowering people.
Responsibilities
Lead, carry out and support systems engineering work.
Work with Business Development and Product Management to set product requirements and features.
Break system requirements down into subsystem requirements for hardware, FPGA, DSP and microprocessor implementation.
Lead the architecture and design of complex communication systems spanning RF, PHY, MAC, networking and application layers.
Work with subsystem leads to make sure requirements are complete, clearly communicated and understood, and answer developers' detailed design questions during implementation.
Track development progress, spot implementation risks and work with subsystem leads to limit impact on the project.
Build integration and validation strategies and plans with system test leadership so requirements are verified efficiently as development moves forward.
Run hands-on integration and bench testing of UAS systems in the lab to confirm subsystems work together.
Oversee software validation against requirements.
Support system-level debugging of complex issues.
Work with hardware and manufacturing teams to define manufacturing test and calibration requirements and identify critical process parameters.
Oversee the manufacturing ramp and monitor key production data to confirm quality requirements are met.
Support internal and external customers, including technical proposals, technical customer presentations and meetings.
Work with program management and project engineering leads to set development milestones, schedules and budgets.
Give hands-on technical support to the business team and external customers for product trials and demonstrations.
Travel to customer and partner sites to support UAS integration events and provide on-site engineering expertise.
Lead demonstrations of emerging products and technologies at every stage, from proof of concept to final product.
Write and present technical white papers at customer and industry events.
Act as a subject matter expert, giving direction, reviewing work and mentoring other engineers.
Requirements
A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field is required. A master's degree or higher is preferred.
At least two years of experience across a broad, multidisciplinary technical background is required. Industry experience is preferred but not required.
Practical experience with military or commercial wireless products, such as GSM, CDMA, LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, SRW, WNW, MUOS or Link-16.
Strong experience with hardware and software product integration, debugging, verification and validation.
Knowledge of the TCP/IP networking stack.
Proficiency in one or more programming languages.
Familiarity with every part of the embedded architecture: RF systems, digital modem functions, MAC and networking protocols, digital hardware, analog and digital interfaces, embedded real-time firmware, embedded Linux and security algorithm implementation.
Expertise in at least one of these domains.
Ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly, relevantly and completely to different audiences.
Ability to work independently, show initiative and work with a range of engineering development teams.
Ability to work with engineers to define system requirements.
Ability to design and implement test strategies that assess every aspect of a system.
Analytical problem-solving skills.
Effective execution, prioritisation and decision making.
Strong written and verbal communication.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust and respect with team members.
You must be able to frequently sit, stand, walk, use your hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, reach within arm's length, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk and hear.
Regularly sit for long periods and frequently use office equipment such as a PC, printer and telephone.
Regularly lift or move up to 10 pounds, frequently up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
The job requires close, distance, colour and peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
U.S. citizenship is required.
Many roles require a security clearance or the ability to obtain one. Clearances are only granted to U.S. citizens. Candidates who accept a conditional offer may face government security investigations and must meet eligibility rules for classified information access.
