Description

At Affirm, we exist for the moments that matter—giving people a clear, predictable way to pay over time, with no hidden fees, no surprises, and no tradeoffs on what matters most.

About the Engineering team

The Engineering team builds systems that power Affirm’s mission. We take pride in our craft, building reliable, performant, and scalable solutions that touch every part of the business. Whether we’re enabling new ways to pay, ensuring our platforms can scale to the most demanding levels in the industry, or developing seamless servicing experiences, our focus is on solving complex problems through exceptional engineering.

About the role

As Engineering Manager for the Marketing & Privacy Engineering (MPE) team, you’ll lead two engineering pillars - Marketing and Consumer Privacy Engineering - under a shared mission to build trusted, privacy-aware consumer web experiences and measurement systems that enable sustainable growth.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop, and support engineers across the Marketing and Consumer Privacy pillars, creating an environment where they can do their best work, grow their craft, and take on greater responsibility.
  • Establish and continuously improve a shared operating model for MPE that unites Marketing and Privacy around a common mission while creating clarity around each pillar’s priorities, technical ownership, decision-making, and ways of working.
  • Partner closely with the Product Manager and technical lead for each pillar to translate product and business priorities into clear engineering plans and deliver against their respective roadmaps while maintaining alignment to MPE’s shared mission.
  • Guide engineering strategy and execution across Logged-Out Web, web experimentation, marketing integrations, attribution and measurement, consent, privacy experiences, and consumer data collection.
  • Build strong partnerships across Engineering, Product, Marketing, Privacy, Legal, and adjacent engineering teams, establishing clear ownership and reliable ways of working across shared systems such as client-side and server-side tagging and measurement infrastructure.
  • Enable privacy-aware engineering by ensuring consent, cookies, tagging, and consumer data collection are considered as part of solution design and by creating alignment where growth, measurement, and consumer privacy intersect.
  • Hold the team accountable for delivering reliable, scalable solutions while balancing engineering quality, customer needs, business priorities, speed, and appropriate risk.

Requirements

  • Experience managing and developing software engineers, with a track record of building collaborative, high-performing teams through coaching, candid feedback, and accountability.
  • Strong software engineering foundation and technical judgment, ideally with experience leading teams responsible for consumer-facing or high-traffic web platforms and complex systems or integrations.
  • Experience translating product and business priorities into engineering plans and leading execution across distinct technical domains, product partners, and roadmaps toward a shared mission.
  • Ability to build alignment across Product, Engineering, and other cross-functional stakeholders, with strong communication skills and the ability to make complex technical topics clear to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Sound judgment navigating ambiguity, competing priorities, dependencies, and risk, with a focus on engineering quality and operational excellence while balancing reliability, scalability, speed, and business needs.
  • Experience with marketing technology, web experimentation, analytics, attribution, instrumentation, or measurement systems is a plus.
  • Familiarity with global privacy and data protection requirements such as GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and the Australian Privacy Act (APPs), and/or experience with privacy-aware systems such as consent management, cookies, tagging, data collection, or consumer privacy experiences, is a plus.
